Yesterday, I had a great interview with a well-known company.

The conversation flowed, everyone was smiling, the vibe was positive, and I genuinely thought: “This is going well!”

Then, right at the end, I asked the forbidden question:

“What’s the salary range for this position?”

The response came with the level of secrecy usually reserved for classified government documents:

“The salary is confidential. You’ll find out after the logic test and the next 2–3 interview rounds.”

So let me get this straight…

Before knowing whether the compensation matches my expectations, I need to:
✅ Pass a logic test
✅ Complete several more interviews
✅ Potentially invest hours of my time

…all for the chance to unlock the final level, where the salary is finally revealed.

At this point, some hiring processes feel less like recruitment and more like an escape room.

Maybe it’s just me, but wouldn’t it save everyone time if we knew from the start whether we’re aligned not only on vision, culture, and values, but also on compensation?
