When religion starts following the fashions of society and goes against its own holy book it loses its authority and becomes obsolete. Society tends to follow the passions of people's hearts. The hearts of human beings constantly change through time. God doesn't change; what was wrong 3000 years ago is still wrong. It is the job of religion to morally and spiritually lead society and to protect people from blindly following their passions and damaging their souls.
