In Kabul, an unarmed Army doctor attacked a suicide bomber and held him in a grip until his explosive vest went off.

His name was Major Laishram Jyotin Singh. He was from Bishnupur, Manipur, and was a doctor in the Army Medical Corps.

In February 2010, he was sent to Kabul to work with the Indian medical team. He had been there for only 13 days.

At around 6:30 a.m. on 26 February 2010, suicide attackers stormed the secured compound where Indian officials were staying.

A car bomb explosion at the main gate killed three security personnel. A terrorist then entered the compound, firing into rooms and throwing grenades.

Five unarmed officers were hiding in one room when a grenade landed there. The fire spread to a bathroom where five other officers were hiding.

After crawling out of the rubble of his own room, Jyotin Singh heard the screams of those officers.

He was unarmed, but he still attacked the terrorist with his bare hands and pinned him to the ground. He held him down until the terrorist detonated his suicide vest.

Both died. Jyotin Singh was 37 years old.

According to the Ministry of Defence, his supreme sacrifice saved the lives of 10 of his colleagues.

On 26 January 2011, he was awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.

आप में से अधिकांश ने हॉलीवुड एक्टर अर्नोल्ड श्वार्ज़नेगर का नाम सुना ही होगा!

टर्मिनेटर फ़िल्म के बलिष्ठ हीरो अर्नोल्ड ने जीवन में बहुत कुछ पाया- पैसा रुतबा और यहाँ तक कैलिफ़ोर्निया के गवर्नर भी रहें।

अर्नोल्ड की बीवी से उन्हें औलादें भी हुई। किंतु अर्नोल्ड के जीवन में एक बेहद दिलचस्प वाक़या हुआ।

अर्नोल्ड के घर में एक महिला काम करती थी- बेबीसिटर से लेके हाउसकीपर तक का। नब्बे के दशक में ये महिला प्रेग्नेंट हुई- नार्मल बात है, महिलायें होती है। किंतु इस बेबीसिटर महिला से जो लड़का हुआ, किसी को ना मालूम था उसका बाप कौन है।

अमरीका की सबसे अच्छी बात ये है- इधर कोई ज़ियादा दिमाग़ नहीं मारता कि सिंगल मदर के लड़के का बाप कौन है! इसी तर्ज़ पे अर्नोल्ड की बीवी ने भी इस लड़के को देख दिमाग़ नहीं मारा।

किंतु जैसे जैसे ये लड़का बड़ा होता गया, दस बारह साल का हुआ- अर्नोल्ड की बीवी ने तलाक की अर्जी डाल दी, जबकि वैवाहिक जीवन सब बढ़िया चल रहा था- ना पैसे की कमी थी और ना रुतबे की, ना प्रेम की।

कारण था- बेबीसिटर का ये लड़का हुबहू अर्नोल्ड की तरह दिखता था। किशोर बालक की मांसपेशियों की नुमाइश देख मालूम होता मानो कुदरत ने अर्नोल्ड के चेहरे और जिस्म की फ़ोटोकॉपी तैयार कर दी हो!

तलाक हो गया- अर्नोल्ड ने बाद में माना बेबीसिटर से हुआ लड़का उसीं का है।

कई बार सुबूत की जरूरत नहीं होती- क़ुदरत ख़ुद बा ख़ुद ऐसे सुबूत देती है जिन्हें देख शक की कोई गुंजाइश नहीं होती।

अब देखिए - हाल में हल्ला मचा था कि एक बड़े प्रोडूसर का बेटा बिल्कुल सलमान ख़ान की तरह दिखता है। क्या पता क़ुदरत फिर से सुबूत दे रही है कि डीएनए चेहरे के प्रतिबिंब में छिपा हुआ है!

अर्नोल्ड ने बाद में अपने इस लड़के को अपने जैसा बनाया- बॉडी बिल्डिंग आदि में।

दुनिया में बहुत-सी चीज़ें छिपाई जा सकती हैं : बैंक बैलेंस, पुराने प्रेमपत्र और मोबाइल का पासवर्ड भी। मगर कभी-कभी कुदरत ऐसा चेहरा बना देती है कि आदमी ख़ुद अपने राज़ का विज्ञापन बन जाता है।

इसलिए ज़िंदगी में कर्म ऐसे कीजिए कि चेहरा गवाही देने लगे, तो कम-से-कम गवाही आपके पक्ष में हो!
