If we’re dropping Turkey for “Türkiye,” start calling Arizona “Alĭ Sonak,” the indigenous Tohono O’odham name that can be roughly translated to “it’s a dry heat.”

UPDATE! Shawnee 2013
Ok. It turns out that indeed what I was told about the 5/19/13 Shawnee situation was right. The rating was never supposed to be 190 mph EF4. The error was missed on DAT for 13 years as A LOT obviously was ongoing in the days and weeks ahead of that tornado. It is the reality of being a "day before the day." An EF5 through a metropolitan area, and then the world's largest tornado of all-time to date helped let the error go unnoticed. This is, thus, not a downgrade, it is a data correction within the NWS database. I was also asked to remind folks that the DAT is not to be taken as a full summary of events. As of June 2026, there are no tornadoes from before 2026 confirmed to be under review for upgrades or downgrades. #okwx
As I mentioned in my LIVE here on X yesterday evening, the 175 mph fits the given damage indicator.

Paradise Valley Mall gave me three separate “lifetime bans” but we merely pedaled through it on our BMX bikes.
(The mall cops weren’t great at record keeping. My chrome Mongoose was pretty sweet.)
On this day in 1775, George Washington writes his wife, Martha. He called her “my dear Patcy.” Only a handful of letters between George and Martha still survive. This letter is one of them.
