Meet the 2 presidents of #Togo: yes you heard me right! Togo now has two presidents.

After ruling #Togo for 20 years following the 38 years of his father Eyadema Gnassingbé, Dictator Faure Gnassingbe now moved to the position of President of Council of Ministers under his custom-made constitution and he had
86 years old Jean Lucien Sanvee de Tové appointed as President of the Republic.

The position of the President of The Republic which has been rendered completely ceremonial is to fool the world that #Togo has a new president too.

Under his new custom made constitution, which was passed by a parliament whose mandate has ended, Faure Gnassingbé has wiped out presidential elections and this, without a referendum.
He has taken us decades behind to the time of a single party state. #FaureMustGo

The military regime of dictator @FEGnassingbe has escalated its long-standing tactic of attacking opposition party meetings to disrupt gatherings. Recently, a Senegalese member of parliament @GuyMariusSagna along with other opposition members and journalists, was brutally assaulted and wounded .
These attacks, carried out by regime supporters, shows just how much worse the situation in #Togo has become.

I penned this letter in solidarity with my brother and friend @barkervogues who is being arbitrarily detained by the government of @NAkufoAddo for holding a protest against illegal mining which has resulted in the pollution of 60% of Ghana’s water sources.

“For over a month, Oliver was held in detention, tortured, and subjected to the kind of abuse that one might expect in a dictatorship, not in Ghana, a nation once celebrated as a beacon of democracy and progress in Africa. The affidavit of his torture still gives me goosebumps to this day, reminding me of similar cases of torture in my homeland of Togo. I was appalled that this could happen in Ghana, a country long seen as a model of freedom in the region.
Oliver was charged with treason, an absurd and politically motivated accusation that has never been substantiated. Over two years later, his trial remains unresolved, exposing the rotten, corrupt nature of the judiciary system in Ghana, where elites shield themselves from accountability while the innocent are punished.”
