Remembering Nirmal "Nimsdai" Purja MBE. Husband. Father. Brother. World-renowned groundbreaking mountaineer. Entrepreneur. Leader. Gurkha. Special Forces Veteran.
These titles describe who Nimsdai is, but they don't capture what he represents.
Nimsdai built a legacy by challenging limits and breaking boundaries. He redefined what was possible and showed the world what can be achieved when belief, courage, and relentless determination come together.
Nimsdai dedicated his life to expanding the boundaries of human potential while using his achievements to create opportunities for others. He used his voice to champion others, especially Nepal's climbing community. Through the work of the Nimsdai Foundation, he transformed the lives of mountain communities, championed education and opportunity, and inspired people across the world to pursue lives of purpose, resilience and service. His vision, leadership and determination built Elite Exped, Nimsdai Foundation, Skydive Nimsdai and Nimsdai Store into what they are today. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he changed and the people he inspired to climb their own mountains.
Nimsdai was climbing Broad Peak as part of his own expedition to become the first person in history to climb all 14 eight-thousanders twice without supplementary oxygen. Nimsdai was accompanied by his trusted climbing partners and guides, Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta) and Nima Sherpa. With only Cho Oyu remaining to complete all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks for a third time as part of his Hat-Trick Project in support of the Nimsdai Foundation.
Yet, true to the philosophy that defined his life, this climb was never simply about records. It was about pushing the limits of what was possible and inspiring others to believe that their own mountains could also be climbed.
On 28 July, Nimsdai dedicated the climb with these words:
"To everyone who carried me here. Supporters. Critics. All of you. Without both sides, there is no fire. So thank you genuinely. My purpose has never been about me. It's about what I represent. It's about showing YOU that your mountains - whatever they are - are climbable."
Those pioneering final words perfectly capture who Nimsdai is. His greatest achievement has never simply been the summits he's stood on, but the belief he's instilled in millions of people around the world: that impossible is often just a starting point.
So Nimsdai, we salute you for reminding us all that every mountain is climbable. You never left anyone behind, even when it meant putting yourself in harm's way. Your courage, selflessness, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire us, and your legacy will live on in every person you inspired. We will honour your vision by continuing the work you started; your mission lives on through all of us.
If you could see what we see today, you would know that you achieved your mission. Nimsdai, you truly showed the world that "giving up is not in the blood," and for that, we thank you for ever and always.
Rest well Nimsdai. Your spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.
This is absolutely bizarre!!!!!!!!!! Davidson has suffered Tourette’s since 12, he DOES NOT MEAN ANY OF THE OFFENSIVE SLURS!!!!! He was treated like shit in those early years and showed more resilience than any of the BAFTA glitterati who donned the stage being awarded for getting lucky in life on the whole. Warner Brothers educate yourself, celebrities educate yourself! I’ve worked therapeutically with Tourette’s sufferers and been called a cunt, a fart face, a fucking bucket gusset and some other choice names…..but guess what THATS BECAUSE THEY SUFFER WITH Tourette’s! Where you fear saying the wrong thing that THEN increases stress, and beyond your control it comes out involuntarily! He knew that word…..because that FUCKING WORD IS EVERYWHERE, it’s in movies, songs, raps, and general conversation in certain communities….and he knows is GATE KEPT by those who can use it and those who can’t use it…..so because his brain knows it would be TERRIBLE to use such a word…..the stress ensured it happened. I suffer from tic disorder….the more stressed I GET the more I tic….i don’t sit there thinking COOL I LOVE MAKING PEOPLE AROUND ME FEEL AWKWARD…..but it’s out of my hands! This outcry is ludicrous and it doesn’t demonstrate racism it demonstrates ableism.
So a man invited to the BAFTA’s as inspiration for a film demonstrating the horrific hostility and lack of understanding people with Tourette’s face… is now facing horrific hostility and a lack of understanding over his Tourette’s?
Have I got that right? 🤦
Tax his land, Tax his bed,
Tax the table, At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes are the rule.
Tax his work, Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find any way To tax his ass!
Tax him all he has, then let him know
That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and when he hollers;
Then tax him more, take all his dollars
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in Which he's laid...
Put these words Upon his tomb:
‘Taxes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone, Do not relax,
It's time to apply Inheritance Tax!
#BudgetDay
Right then... so what she's saying is that...
If you have worked hard, saved money all your life in order to not burden the state
If you have tried to better yourself and provide for your children by feeding them.
If you haven't been able to afford children because you have chosen to work
If you have started a business in the hope you can eventually sell and use your gains to fund your old age
If you did as you were told and bought a hybrid car
If you invested in an ISA to help you save
If you employed young workers to train them and help them develop
If you bought a house and invested in with tax paid salary, so you had a bit of a nest egg
If you only had the children you could afford....
You are all fucked! Today, you have been told that all those people who did none of the above will be funded even more by you.
Remember when the BBC let the Argentine forces know that 2 Para were about to attack Goose Green during the Falklands Campaign in 1982. The rot goes that far back
The "Goose Green BBC incident" refers to
a controversial event during the Falklands War in 1982 when the BBC World Service broadcast the imminent British attack on Darwin and Goose Green, compromising the element of surprise for the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. The broadcast infuriated British military commanders, who were reportedly planning the attack at that moment, leading to accusations of treason and a fierce debate about the BBC's role in wartime reporting.
The broadcast: The BBC World Service announced that the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment was preparing to assault Darwin and Goose Green.
The timing: This happened while British soldiers were in the final stages of planning their assault, making the element of surprise obsolete.
The reaction: The commanding officers were furious and concerned about the safety of their troops. Lieutenant Colonel Jones famously threatened to sue the BBC and the government.
The aftermath: The incident sparked a debate about journalistic independence versus national security. While the BBC defended its reporting, some military personnel and government officials, including Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, were highly critical.
Controversy over consequences: No one at the BBC was formally fired for the incident, though it did contribute to broader political pressure and a heated debate about the media's role during the conflict.
This Remembrance Sunday, I recommend reading the words of Lance Sergeant Bill Gibson of No.2 Commando 6 troop.
Written before he set off on Operation Chariot, to be delivered in the event of his death.
Sadly Bill and the friend he mentions, Lance Sergeant Peter Harkness were both killed in action during the raid.
“My dearest Dad, by the time you get this I shall be one of the many who have sacrificed their unimportant lives for what little ideals we may have - my own ideals I can thank you for.
The job we have been on has been something worthwhile - it has virtually been suicide but the repercussions after we will have finished our task will be very far reaching in as much as the raiders who sink so many of our merchant ships will be put out of action for at least six months - so the food line from America should be unimpaired. Peter and I will be together- our task is just a wee bit dangerous, but if we can hold Jerry off it will mean the saving of the lives of a lot of our pals.
We have been on this boat for a fortnight now, and we are all determined to see this through. I salute you all, No.2 Commando - they are a great lot of lads.
Tomorrow moming I am going to Holy Communion - the first communion I have ever been at - but I know God will help us all he can, and I pray, Dad, that he will help you, and bless Betty for all she has been to us. My will has been made out - it seems so silly but we have all had to do it.
I would like you. Dad, to write a note to my Irish girl and let her know what has happened. You will get her address in any of the letters - her name is Anne Brien - would you do this for me.
The reason I am writing this at all, Dad, is just the thought that it might be a little better for you to get this rather than the dreaded telegram.
I don't think I have made any enemies in the world - I have made a lot of good friends, but you've been the best pal I've ever had. Your influence, plus our Alex's, has certainly helped me to pass through life with a character which, though a bit rough in some things, still has all the fine thoughts gained from both of you. Sandy, I suppose, I'll have met by this time so don't be worried, Dad.
It seems ever so peculiar to be writing this letter. We've just finished our tea and the sunshine is streaming through the portholes. We've been on deck sunbathing all day. Peter is very red now, and I am myself, and everything seems so far removed from the job ahead of us. We have not been allowed to leave the boat for over a fortnight now except for organized parties to get some exercise. With spring in the air and everything looking so beautiful we can only now appreciate how lovely everything is - almost like condemned criminals.
Well, Dad dearest, I'll close now. Don't worry and don't be too unhappy - remember what you always told me - to keep my chin up. I'll have done what chance has made my duty, and I can only hope that by laying down my life the generations to come might in some way remember us, and also benefit by what we've done.
It is unnecessary for me to tell you how sorry I am at not being able to do a lot of the things I have longed to do to pay you back for the chance you gave me. In a time like this I turn to you, Dad, and God - I hope there will be peace for everyone soon. Give my love to everyone - I'll remember you.
Your loving son, Bill"
We will remember them.
Remembrance isn’t just about looking back, it’s about making sure the next generation understands what was paid for the lives we live now. The comfort, the freedom, the chance to choose our own path… none of that came easy.
It’s easy to scroll past, but the stories aren’t just history lessons, they’re part of who we are. Every poppy, every moment of silence, every name read aloud is a reminder of courage, sacrifice and the price of peace.
We owe it to them to keep remembering. Always. We will remember them! 🌹
