This is what I wanted the OVAs to be. Everything from the cast to the mix of tense, thrilling drama and often hilarious comedy finally reached the potential I knew they had after watching Early Days. And Noa finally got the respect she always deserved.
The other is Hauro Nakajima and Katsumi Tezuka. I don't know if I'd say they hated each other but they had a fierce rivalry which started in 1954 and they were not pulling punches that includes the scene where Godzilla pushes Anguirus into water.
Wonderful miniature work too.
The cruise ship is a fun example. Dancing in public spaces was banned in Japan for a long time due to a law from 1948. But cruise ships were exempt due to a loophole so we get a scene like this (and a similar one in Toho's Frankenstein) with dance as a clean, socializing activity
