Hey everyone!

I’m going to keep posting updates whenever I have them even if they’re tiny. So here’s the latest breakdown for both the COLOR EDITION and MIDNIGHT EDITION.

First off: we’re answering roughly 500 emails a day…and then wake up to another 500 the next morning. A lot of these are address updates, which is totally fine we’re working through them and figuring it all out. It’s just clogging our inbox, but we expected this to happen which is why we had as many people as possible do it three months ago.

COLOR EDITION

We’re now in the later part of Batch 2.

The timing got a little weird because of Memorial Day weekend, so MacMillian was closed Monday (though we did get a jump on Midnight Editions that day).

About 400 international orders are going out tomorrow on top of USA, Canada.

We’re also having a meeting Monday to figure out how to speed this process up even more.

The biggest bottleneck right now is honestly just data. The process goes:

Nashville exports batches → MacMillian imports them → UPS imports them

There’s a small data conformity issue happening between systems, mostly with certain UK addresses. Some UK addresses work perfectly, others have unusual formatting where there’s no street name and only numbers or district identifiers. Different systems want address information formatted differently, so we’ve had to manually verify some of these orders.

USA, Canada, and most international orders are moving smoothly and at a nice pace. This is still moving around 40x faster than I could have done this by myself. Thousands of books have been shipped out and it is getting faster

MIDNIGHT EDITION

We’ve been packing roughly 200-ish books per day. We have around 400 books hitting the post office tomorrow.

We already have another 100 packed and we’re continuing to pack through today and tomorrow.

MIDNIGHT SHIP DAYS ARE: TUESDAYS & FRIDAYS

(The post office hates us.)

But we are moving. We’re working long hours and moving about as fast as we can.

One final thing:

You may notice some big jumps in batch numbers. That’s because batch numbers include ALL orders not just graphic novels.

Took a few pictures to compare Black & White vs. the Color Edition side-by-side. I thought it was cool.

I’ve unpacked 3 pallets of Midnight Editions so far… 5 more to go. It’s a process but it’s helping this side get a head start plus I like to do all jobs so I understand how to instruct the workers when they start in March.

The Color Editions are being stickered by hand. It takes a tad longer, but it ensures every single one is placed and not pressed. We’re also adding page spacers inside the front and back covers a small extra layer of protection to keep them safe on the long journey ahead.

These ship to distribution in about a week and a half, and from there it takes about 4½ weeks to arrive. Once they land, unboxing begins. I’m not sure how long that will take but I’m trying to find out.

We are incredibly close now. Close to the finish line. Close to these being in your hands.

One of many teasers I'm editing. @daztibbles added little motion to the a few pages. This is all I have to post while we're waiting for printing to complete. Samples should be coming in a few weeks. In the meantime I'm going to keep editing a bunch of these with dialogue from the novel while mixing shots from the show with the pages from the novel. Color Edition has been handed printer...but also...
The COOKIE 🍪
This one’s straight out of the back matter of the novel. Darren Maclean is an incredible chef and a finalist on Netflix’s Final Table. We first connected after Final Space got canceled through Instagram, and years later I wound up in Calgary doing a comedy show. Darren invited me to one of his restaurants and, no exaggeration, it was the best meal of my dang life.
The way he found the show meant a lot to me. I honestly had no clue how far the series reached. I was told nothing when it was airing except “the numbers did okay in the U.S.” So whenever I hear stories of it doing really well everywhere else, it’s still this surreal, wonderful surprise.
So I asked Darren to do something special: create the definitive cookie recipe. These cookies are now canon. ..the very ones Gary was chasing, the ones HUE never gave him. They live in our universe now.
