Some of Romania’s most cherished national treasures were stolen this morning in the Netherlands.

Romania had sent a collection of Dacian gold and silver treasures made between 2000 BC and 300 BC, including the famous Golden Helmet of Coțofeneșt to a museum in Assen for temporary exhibition

The exhibition included over 600 exhibits from 15 Romanian museums. Burglers broke in last night and stole many of the item.

Museums in Central and Eastern Europe are growing increasingly weary of sending their most precious items to Western Europe as there are too many criminal gangs and not enough security.
