Thereโs a law firm that directed its junior female lawyers to strictly wear short skirts and heels on a daily basis to retain their employment.

My thoughts and prayers are with the NMG staff. I called a few friends at NMG today, and all I can say โIt is very tough waking up to no job at all, and a lot of uncertainty surrounding what brings food on the table, but most importantly the future of press freedom as a fundamental bedrock of our democracy.

โ1). ๐จ ๐ I hate to say this, but let me say it so that I can find closure. I am deeply traumatized by the killing of Sidney. The tragic murder of rugby player Sydney Gongodyo in Naguru is not an isolated flash of street violence; it is the inevitable, catastrophic consequence of a security architecture deliberately hollowed out for regime survival. For decades, the ruling establishment has treated the Boda Boda industry not as a transport sector to be regulated, but as a low-cost, highly mobilized paramilitary auxiliary. By tracing the historical trajectory back to the formal and informal pacts brokered during the General Kale Kayihura era (most notoriously embodied by the rise of "Boda Boda 2010") we see a deliberate outsourcing of state monopoly on force. Raw, untrained riders were elevated into "enforcement commandants," wielding extra-judicial authority that openly superseded statutory structures like Resident City Commissioners (RDCs) and District Police Commanders (DPCs). When a state swaps professional policing for institutionalized thuggery to secure political compliance, the urban perimeter becomes a ticking time bomb.
โ2). ๐จ๐ This unchecked explosion of the Boda industry has transformed Kampala's high-traffic commercial corridors into hyper-volatile, "target-rich" zones where disguised criminal networks seamlessly blend into desperate, self-employed vigilante mobs. The structural architecture of these spaces relies entirely on a hair-trigger social psychology: a single, unverified scream of "Mubi! Mubi!" (Thief! Thief!) acts as an immediate catalyst, sparking a spontaneous, erratic chain reaction among idlers and riders alike. Sidney's tragic end proves that in these decentralized tribunals, personal dignity, innocence, or a "confidence walk" offer zero armor against a mob acting as judge, jury, and executioner. The recent Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) midnight ultimatums demanding that illegal operators and street vendors vacate walkways are, in reality, a public confession of systemic incompetence. In a functionally planned metropolis, trade logistics, zoning, and transit density are managed proactively through urban economic modeling, rather than reacting with frantic, late-night decrees after the streets have already run red with the blood of its citizens.
Wednesday, he was singing happy birthday to his son.
Friday a mob took him from that same son forever.

Many Bodas operate like the law here in Uganda is a suggestion to them, but Iโve looked into the future & I can tell you they are about to meet their equal in mad men.
By the time we are called to their aid, theyโll have learnt discipline, order and laws are worth their weight
@myfatherssan@segyturner@QuteJR STFU! Police reviewed the CCTV, Sidney didn't steal anything. A different man snatched the bag & jumped on a boda to escape. Sidney was in the same area & was attacked by boda thugs. He didn't try to run or fight. He tried to explain that it wasn't him but no-one listened.

DIOMAYE FAYE, President of Senegal: "I don't really want my photographs in your offices, because I'm not a God or an icon, but a servant of the nation. Hang pictures of your children instead and look at them every time you want to make a decision, and whenever the spirit of theft visits you, take a good look at your family's picture and ask yourself if they deserve to be the family of a thief who has destroyed the nation."
