We're a mix of physicists and biologists led by @Alma_DalCo studying microbial ecology, collective behavior & spatial organization | Tweets by group members🇨🇭
"With Alma the world has lost a visionary scientist. [...] Her vision, spirit and leadership have profoundly changed many around her and will continue to be a source of inspiration for many years to come."
Thank you @simon_vanvliet & Martin Ackermann

The outpouring of grief and support from the local and wider community is a testament to how deeply Alma touched us all. We hope to transmit those personal messages to her family and we started compiling an electronic memory book available here: https://t.co/yIZybJWofp
The @dbc_unil is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of our colleague Alma Dal Co @Alma_DalCo. Our department lost an exceptional scientist, an inspiring teacher, a caring mentor, and above all a generous and cheerful colleague. In memoriam: https://t.co/FVRp0jxvn2
We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news that our dear colleague Alma Dal Co suddenly passed away. She will dearly missed and we wish strength and courage to her family, friends, students and colleagues. Room GEN2024 is open to pay tribute and leave a message.
We're devastated by the sudden loss of our dear colleague Alma Dal Co. Alma's brilliant mind and joyful energy livened up all our meetings. Her passion for life and science will continue to inspire us. Our thoughts go to her family and loved ones. We already miss her terribly.
Today we commemorated Alma with many colleagues and friends at @dbc_unil. The broad support and kind messages we received are a true testament of the love she spread around.
From afar, if you want to leave a message to honor Alma's memory, please check : https://t.co/joRePV1avF
It is with immense sadness that we share the recent death of our PI @Alma_DalCo. We lost an inspiring scientist & a kind, generous, cheerful and caring mentor. We will remember her contagious enthusiasm, her passion for science and her energy
We already miss her tremendously
We're very happy to host @nieves_lpg (PhD student in @type3lab) in Lausanne for 2 months!
We are now setting up microfluidics experiments with Pseudomonas syringae! 🔬🧫 Exciting to have another plant pathogen in the lab 🤩🌱🦠
Last week was a bit special for the lab! We had to celebrate 🎉🥳
✅ 1-year anniversary of the @DalCo_Lab
✅ Big grant won by @Alma_DalCo
Looking forward for more fun and great science in this second year!!🦠🔬😁
New paper from our very own @Alma_DalCo with @simon_vanvliet and @MicSysEcoLab!!
"Global dynamics of microbial communities emerge from local interaction rules" https://t.co/BM8S1e76KW
Our new paper https://t.co/lgc95sRws1 is out in @PLOSCompBiol!
Biologists: Skip the SI!
Math people: Skip the Main Text!
with @simon_vanvliet, @DalCo_Lab, @MicSysEcoLab
@BenMansfeld@JSLuneau But also:
3- How 2 strains affect each other's growth
4- What is the range of interactions between cells
For example metabolic interactions: https://t.co/btg2EFYPCC
or quorum-sensing: https://t.co/IppYCWjCrW
We have a newcomer in the lab!
The plant pathogen #Xanthomonas campestris is settling just fine in our microfluidics chambers😁
Plenty of cool experiments to come @JSLuneau!
@BenMansfeld@JSLuneau We image and track single cells in space and time, so we usually look at:
1- how bacteria respond to environmental fluctuations
2- how gradients derived from cell activity in the chamber affect gene expression (w/ fluorescent reporters)
