From a D1 Head Coach today in a text…
“I’m not worried about making friends or if parents think it’s fair. I won’t risk my job or livelihood on a player that isn’t what I think they need to be to play at this level or that has parents who are always running their mouths with negative things to say. Parents always say their kid just needs a chance. We can’t just give chances, it doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t matter how hard they’ve worked or how good they are as students if they can’t get here and help us win and handle business I won’t recruit them. If their parents are always bashing coaches I won’t recruit them either. Like it or don’t like it. I’ve been successful this way and won’t change”.
I’m not telling you what to think of this but I am telling you he told me I could share it and do with it what you will.

I get messages from minor hockey coaches saying they can’t work on some fundamental skills because parents get mad and say “my kids way to advanced for that”

@TylerSwyryda05@gregjockims Parents want the nice coach. Now a days one of 2 of those parents woulda been upset at the coach for challenging their kid and holding them accountable. Parents are bigger problems then the kids because the kids learn from the parents.
Know someone who is a perfect fit for the job? Coordinator does not have to have a child in the program (but it also can be a parent) ... a graduated YMH player? a hockey loving teacher with time after school? an alumni YMH parent who is looking for some time at the rink?!
