@FiredUpCoug It was pretty much stake conference when BYU women's soccer played in Alabama a few years ago. The Alabama student section was really confused when we had nearly as many fans on a random Thursday night.
This is wild and, at a certain point, it feels intentional from ESPN
-Overlook BYU as a remaining undefeated
-skip Provo as an easy choice for College Gameday show for the Holy War last weekend
-Barely spend any time talking about BYU on their college game day show & podcasts (some are begrudgingly starting to recently)
Are you getting a PhD? Do you love to polish metals more than anything else in the world? We have an internship position open. Closes March 20th. U.S. citizens only for this position.

As fires continue to burn in Southern California, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organizing emergency support on various levels. Emergency supplies are being provided to those in need through local bishops’ storehouses and the Bishops’ Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City. Today, for example, 1,500 cases of bottled water are being delivered to areas most impacted by the wildfires.
Approximately 1,000 Latter-day Saints have been evacuated and are staying with relatives, friends, fellow Church members or other lodging. More than 30 Latter-day Saints’ homes have been destroyed. Church buildings have been made available for community staging and shelter.
All missionaries are safe and accounted for and are continuing their service. The Los Angeles Temple, which closed on January 8, reopened on January 9 and is operating on its regular schedule.
Local leaders deeply appreciate the outpouring of support and willingness to volunteer from so many. Until this is needed, those who wish to help can donate to the Church’s humanitarian efforts or offer volunteer support through local organizations.

Amazing how many other folks are agreeing with this opinion of mine from 4 weeks ago NOW
It’s a little late y’all!
BYU ABSOLUTELY should have been “in the discussion” for the last at-large CFP spot BEFORE this Alamo Bowl showing and was summarily ignored/dismissed
Unacceptable
Excited to announce that I will be teaching a course at MIT during the month of January titled Advanced Machining. I’m teaching the class that I wish I had when I was an undergrad: a practical deep-dive into all the details of machining, metrology, workholding, tool-selection, tolerances, etc. that you would normally learn after many years of experience.
It will be open to the public and also will be posted on YouTube :) Please let me know what you think! (Link in the reply)
After a Utah holding penalty erased a would-be game-ending sack and allowed BYU to continue its final offensive possession, BYU faced the following situation:
Trailing 21-19
No timeouts
Ball at the BYU 19-yard line
1:29 on the clock
Starting right tackle out of the game
Over the next 29 seconds, BYU gained 56 yards on three plays to put the team in field goal range, then snapped three rushing plays to position for the game-winning kick.
The game was not won or lost on the penalty.
There was a lot of work left to do, and BYU did the work to earn the win.
Some seem tempted to put an "asterisk" on BYU's early-season win over SMU
They shouldn't.
I've seen/heard some people being relatively dismissive of this win because SMU's QB, Kevin Jennings, wasn't "the starter" in that game and the Mustangs have since "made a QB change."
First off, Jennings got ~90% of the snaps vs BYU & had 32 pass attempts compared to Stone's 4 attempts. Stone was only in for 2 drives (both "3-and-outs")
Secondly, Jennings wasn't coming in as a green backup and essentially entered the season (and definitely the BYU game) as a "co-starter" where Coach Lashlee was rotating each of them every two series. I recall hearing on the broadcast that both QBs were getting equal reps with the 1st team in practices and throughout the off-season.
Third, Jennings is in his third season with SMU & finished last season as the starter. He finished the last 3 Quarters vs Navy after Stone's injury and subsequently started in/won the AAC Championship game over Willie Fritz's Tulane squad. Thereafter, he got all the practice and game time related to their Bowl game and got first team reps throughout spring practices while Stone rehabilitated
Fourth, BYU won vs some tough odds. The Cougs were 13 point underdogs. SMU had two games under their belt (they played in Week 0) compared to only 1 for BYU. SMU hadn't lost at home since the middle of the 2022 season and haven't lost at all since. The Mustangs have averaged scoring in the mid 50s at home through the last 2 years, yet they never reached the end zone vs BYU and scored only 15 points (& even that required 2 FGs over 52 yards in length)
Lastly, while Jennings has "rounded into form" through the season, the exact same thing can be said of BYU's QB Retzlaff, who went into that game vs SMU 0-4 vs FBS opponents and had less in-game experience and a year less within the program/system than Jennings. Retzlaff also didn't have a great game, throwing 2 INTs and losing a fumble en route to a QBR of only 33.2. In fact, all three QBs (Retzlaff, Stone, and Jennings) had sub-par performances, but great defenses can have that effect even on great QBs.
Retzlaff has made greater strides/progress since that game than Jennings has, so the "new starting QB" argument doesn't work at all to minimize BYU's win in Dallas.
On BYU: "How many people predicted BYU would be the lead dog (in the Big 12)? It's a complete fever dream, this offense led by a Jewish quarterback at a Mormon school bouncing from rollicking come-from-behind wins to defiant dominance."
"In an era when the best teams have the biggest budgets to lure elite recruits, BYU has a roster full of guys who never wanted to be anywhere else, and they've proven to be the perfect combination of grit and performance and drive." https://t.co/KimZfoLn5b
