One of my favorite papers in recent years included this diagram.

It shows the impact of controlling for three different types of variables: confounders, colliders, and mediators.

With confounders, control is good. With the others, you ruin your result by controlling.

Next curiosity. I wonder on average, how many meters do waste bins stand far away from another and how the distance varies by country and urbanisation.

I think I'm going to search for a waste bin dataset and really make a map with it.

1. A müll map for #cleancities

Müll is German word for garbage 🗑. As cities work on garbage systems to keep #cleanenvironment and promote appropriate disintegration of waste, it might be helpful to have a map that locates the nearest müll of a kind.

Earlier in August, I ran a search query and it generated 488 results. Since last Friday, the same exact query has been generating 364 results.

This is strange and I will like to know what is happening. Does anyone understand WoS algorithm? Maybe @Clarivate or @ClarivateAG?
