The oldest financial trick in history is being used on you right now. Ancient Rome couldn't stop using it either, and it played a part in bringing down the whole empire...

For two hundred years the Roman denarius was one of the most trusted coins in the world: under Augustus it was struck from silver that ran around 95% to 98% pure, a small disc of real metal that a soldier or a shopkeeper could hold and believe in. It held its value across the whole Mediterranean because there was something genuinely valuable inside it.

Then the emperors discovered a trick that every government since has been tempted by. If you melt down the coins, mix in a little cheap copper, and mint them again, you get more coins out of the same silver. To the eye, nothing has changed. The face on the front is the same. But now the state has more money to spend, and it costs them nothing to make.

Nero began it after the great fire of Rome in AD 64, dropping the silver to about 90%. It was barely noticeable, which was precisely the point. But once the door was open, no emperor could resist walking through it. Each one who needed to pay the army or fund his ambitions shaved off a little more.

By the reign of Septimius Severus the denarius was down to about half silver. His son Caracalla went further, and by the time of Gallienus in the 260s the coinage that had once been nearly pure held around 5% silver. It had become a copper token dipped in a thin silver wash, and everyone knew it...

The result was exactly what you would expect, and exactly what we fear today: prices spiraled. The more coins the mint stamped out, the less each one was worth, and the cost of everything climbed to catch up. Trust in the money collapsed so completely that soldiers began refusing to be paid in it and demanded grain and goods instead.

The same thing is happening to your money right now: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the dollar has lost more than 96% of its purchasing power since 1913, the year the Federal Reserve was created. What a single dollar bought then takes more than thirty dollars to buy today.

The coin was silver and the modern equivalent is paper, but the pattern is the same that ate the denarius: a slow, relentless erosion of value that the people holding the money can feel but cannot stop.

Keynes called it by its real name: theft. "By a continuing process of inflation," he wrote, "governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens." And Milton Friedman put it even more bluntly: "Inflation is the one form of taxation that can be imposed without legislation."

This is one of the most important lessons Rome has to teach: a currency almost never dies in one dramatic stroke, it is always worn away a little at a time by rulers who tell themselves that this once, in this emergency, it will be fine, and by citizens who do not notice until the coin in their hand is copper wearing a thin coat of silver. As Ludwig von Mises, who watched the great European currencies collapse in the twentieth century, put it:

"Government is the only agency that can take a useful commodity like paper, slap some ink on it, and render it totally worthless."

A new Airwars investigation, verified independently by AP, mapped exactly what the Pentagon’s new Precision Strike Missile did to Lamerd, Iran on February 28 — the first day of the Iran war.

Three PrSMs detonated midair above a sports complex and two residential neighborhoods. At least 21 civilians died, including 7 children. Airwars found civilians killed as far as 50 meters from the blast point, with structural damage extending 170 meters out.

The missile is designed to explode before impact, spraying tens of thousands of metal pellets in every direction — a weapon systems experts say should only be used against large troop concentrations in open terrain, not near homes. It was used instead above a sports hall and two residential neighborhoods full of civilians.

Yesterday the President revealed the secret of national wealth. “We don’t need their product. So if we cut off trade with that country, we just made $40 billion. Follow the logic and it only gets better. Stop importing aluminium and you have saved a fortune, plus you no longer need to make cars or aircraft, which saves even more. Stop buying gallium and germanium and the chip factories can close, which frees up the electricity you were about to stop buying anyway. Every cancelled purchase is a profit.

Do a few countries like that, he says, and the machine hums. What it actually produces is emptier shelves, dearer everything, and a superpower proudly announcing it has never been richer, having bought, and built, nothing at all.

A British writer penned the best description of Donald Trump I’ve ever read:

A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.

So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.

• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.

God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.

And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.”

BREAKING: SHAME! Trump refuses to attend the ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11 because the event organizers won't let him give a MAGA speech.

This man makes everything about himself...

According to people with "knowledge of the events" who spoke to The New York Times, Trump was originally planning on attending the event. He even had his team perform advance visits to Manhattan’s National September 11 Memorial & Museum, a customary security check when the President travels anywhere.

His minions also informed the museum that he would like to give a speech at the event. But under the organization's official rules, politicians are forbidden from delivering speeches at anniversary events. This restriction prevents things from descending into political partisanship and ensures that attendees can focus on "honoring the victims and their families in a way free of politics.”

Since, Trump is pathologically incapable of empathy and is uninterested in anything that doesn't revolve around him and his turgid ego, he has now cancelled his plans to attend.

The self-centeredness itself is unsurprising, because this is not a man who has any genuine care for the victims of 9/11 or their families. On the day that the towers came down, he publicly boasted that their destruction meant he now owned the tallest building in Lower Manhattan. He also falsely claimed to have helped clear the rubble.

Since he was blocked from giving a speech at the museum, Trump will now "commemorate" the anniversary at the Pentagon, where he'll be able to rant and rave into a microphone for as long as he likes. The smart money predicts an Islamophobic tirade and we wouldn't be surprised if he tries to conflate Al Qaeda and Iran, in order to draw an imaginary connection between the 9/11 attacks and his ongoing illegal war.

Vice President J.D. Vance will be attending the memorial event at the museum in Trump's stead.

The organization's statement about this brewing scandal was reserved and nonpartisan as expected.

“For more than a decade, the ceremony at Ground Zero has featured only family members solemnly reading the names of their loved ones. Elected officials of both parties have borne witness to this solemn occasion over the years, and we have been honored that every living President, including President Trump, has attended. Of course, President Trump is always welcome,” the museum stated.

The most enraging thing about Trump's refusal to attend this solemn and sacred event is the silence from MAGA world. The very same people who are furious that Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim, will be attending the event have nothing to say about their petulant cult leader disrespecting the entire ceremony.

And it should go without saying, but the the museum made the right decision by refusing to let Trump speak. The last thing that the families of 9/11 victims need to hear is a longwinded, rambling diatribe from a sundowning pedophile.

If I were president and I wanted to tank the dollar and get rich off it, here is exactly what I would do.

I would hire a Treasury Secretary who already made $3.5 billion crashing another country's currency. I would put my guy in charge of the agency that approves bank charters. I would install a crypto czar with $200M in crypto holdings and give him an ethics waiver so nobody could challenge it.

Then I would sign an executive order banning the government from ever creating a digital dollar so there was no competition.

Then I would have my family launch their own private digital dollar. My family takes 75% of net profits. I would grow it to $4.6 billion in circulation and route a $2 billion Abu Dhabi sovereign fund deal through it to prove it works.

Then I would get Congress to pass a law requiring every stablecoin in the country to hold short-term Treasury bills. Now every dollar of my digital currency is a forced buyer of government debt. Brookings projects $2.3 trillion in captive demand by 2030.

Then I would have my OCC guy grant my family's company a federal bank charter. Now I can issue my digital dollar with federal authority.

Then I would have my Treasury Secretary weaken the actual dollar. Bond buybacks that suppress yields but tank the currency. Build a $950 billion war chest for more. Let the debt hit $40 trillion. Dollar index drops to 99. Gold goes to highest point ever.

Then I would kill the Corporate Transparency Act and delete the FinCEN beneficial ownership database. That was the one law that required every shell company in America to report who actually owns it. Without it, nobody can trace who is buying my stablecoin, who is routing money through it, or where the profits land.

Then I would let the loop run. Weaker dollar drives demand for "stable" digital alternatives. The law I passed forces those alternatives to buy T-bills. That funds the government's debt. My family takes profit on every transaction. Foreign central banks walking away from Treasuries get replaced by legally mandated stablecoin reserves my family controls.

Then I would use sanctions to start cutting countries off from the dollar system entirely. And when those countries need a new way to transact in dollars, the only federally chartered private digital dollar in existence is mine. They can buy it through shell companies nobody can trace because I deleted the ownership database.

I just built a toll booth on the global financial system. I take a cut every time someone uses the dollar. And I made it so nobody can see who is paying.

And every single step I just described has already happened.

So what does that mean for you and I?

The reason the United States can borrow at low rates and keep your mortgage and your car payment and your import prices stable is because foreign central banks hold trillions in dollar reserves. That system has always been public. The benefit went to everyone. Lower borrowing costs, cheaper goods , and the single biggest economic advantage any country has ever had.

What I just described is the privatization of that function. The entity buying the debt is no longer a central bank acting in the public interest. It is a private company taking 75% of net profits for one family. The reserve function used to generate a public benefit. Now it generates a private fee.

Your purchasing power shrinks every time the dollar weakens. Your 401k buys less in real terms. Everything you import costs more. And every time the dollar drops, demand for the private digital alternative goes up. The one the president's family owns. The one that by law must buy government debt.

You absorb the cost of a weakening dollar. His family collects the profit. That is the trade.

The enforcement mechanism to stop a sitting president from doing this? There isn't one. Former White House ethics lawyer Richard Painter says it would be a violation for literally any other federal employee, but not the president.

Nobody voted for this. No one was asked. There was no debate. There is no enforcement mechanism. There is no one investigating it. The Senate tried and it was blocked.

This is the largest conflict of interest in American history happening in broad daylight while everyone argues about something else.

So what do you do? Share this. Make it impossible to ignore. Send it to your representative, your senator, every journalist you follow. We make them answer for it.
Because the only thing protecting this scheme right now is the fact that not enough people understand it yet.

An ICE agent scanned the wrong license plate, chased the wrong man, and ended up shooting Julio Sosa-Celis through his own front door. DHS’s first story: Sosa-Celis attacked agents with a broom and snow shovel. City surveillance video proved that was false — the whole struggle lasted about 12 seconds.
