The British created a centralized administrative framework. Successive governments after independence have pushed for more centralization towards a single uniform national framework. That is not in India's civilizational DNA.

Even observers like Karl Marx described India as consisting of thousands of villages each acting like an independent republic.

We should move towards our roots and let local decentralized governance under a unifying national umbrella, rather than forcing one rigid framework on such a diverse country.
