I get caught in a lot of conversations daily, where people want to ask me what I think about some hitting guy, or some drill package.

I generally shake my head and have nothing of value to add to the conversation. Then, I typically get frustrated because someone points out that said "hitting person" is marketing their methodology as "the solution."

I would like to be very clear in saying this. Good coaching is important, and generally pretty hard to find. And the reason it's hard to find is because good coaching starts and ends with one fundamental thing - CARING.

If a coach cares, they can help your player. The reason why is, they won't stop until a player has gone through their own self-discovery, to understand their own identity, and ultimately give them the confidence to perform at a high level.

Yes, your swing is important. Yes, the way you move is important. All of that is secondary to the fact that those things need to lead to how you perform on the field. You can swing a certain way and not perform. You can move a certain way, and not perform.

The inability to perform can/will be the most paralyzing thing that any player will experience. It will create doubt, over and over again. And it will ultimately cause you to run down a bunch of different rabbit holes that will make you believe you're not doing it right.

There is always a "better" way to swing, but never a "best." Stop obsessing about making swings the best, and start obsessing over competing and dealing with the real struggles of the game, so that you can allow yourself to move and swing better.
