Thought this conversation w/ @nulliusverbapod was interesting, but also seemed like a microcosm of the problems in Social Psych. They can broadly point at things that seem connected to a "problem", but have a hard time getting it to cohere into something amenable to ...
contemporary Social Psych is related to social problems in society but ends up weirdly disconnected and unclear whether there's useful insight or how to apply it to anything concrete.
@ludopolitics to take the design contest/game jam culture in a new direction. My impression is that what exists today is not fostering a culture of interesting game design.
@ludopolitics My impression is that it has been dead for some time, some years ago it seemed like the person running it tried to hand it off to some new administrators who then did nothing. I think it would be ethically fine to relaunch it. But I think it would only make sense if it tries ...
I thought this was an interesting essay, I don't have much to say about its core arguments but it led me to thinking about norms and the TTRPG world so I wrote about that on my substack: https://t.co/RhCui2qGdd
@ludopolitics I stopped listening to AP podcasts years ago for other reasons (stopped listening to audio when walking outside), but I did tend to get frustrated that most shows tended to drift toward the performative and away from gameplay being the focus.
Good video, but not sure it's a big problem in practice. Usually you're either so far above/below the blinds that playing by feel is good enough, and rare times when you're close enough to the edge that pre-calculating is useful it feels like part of the fun to do that manually.
Loved the video on this - a problem that is frustrating as the creator of Balatro but is also very interesting as a game designer and exposes the potential knock-on effects of a seemingly simple or obvious design change
GMTK did a really great job summarizing the issue
As the rate of Taylor Swift coverage continues to increase we'll eventually reach a singularity, a point beyond which culture is so radically different that we can't possibly comprehend it from our current vantage point. Therefore, we need a six month pause.
% of Americans who say the national media recently has focused too much / not enough on:
Taylor Swift: 66% / 5%
Elon Musk: 44% / 8%
Criminal cases against Donald Trump: 38% / 25%
Corruption: 10% / 58%
Housing and homelessness: 7% / 52%
Schools: 6% / 49%

I watched Oppenheimer yesterday. I thought it was fine, but I don't think I came away with an understanding of the character. His inscrutability to the people around him is part of the dramatic tension, but I feel like that wasn't satisfyingly resolved for me as a viewer.
I'm still bewildered that studios can do this accounting scam. The fifth amendment forbids taking private property for public use "without just compensation". Maybe these vaulted films should be seized in exchange for the $0 they're supposedly worth. https://t.co/mep4NYhBSP
