Ridiculous reading some southern genocidally-inclined commentary saying kidnapping started in the North. What absolute rubbish. We foreigners were being kidnapped in the South from long ago. I myself was kidnapped in Abuja in early 2012, not by Fulanis but by some southerners. They also demanded money and rams to let us go. The difference now is that the kidnapping industry has now rapidly expanded to involve people at all levels, has attracted a horde of purposeless, unguided youth who are able to traverse the vast forest networks, and has been emboldened by huge payouts received by government negotiations in the past, as well as critical mining locations that lure criminals of all types to work with/for vested interests who want valuable land cleared of people.
