Imagine not understanding that revenue is different than expense.

For all the angry people screaming we should instead be focused on tax breaks and subsidies…
Taking less income than you potentially could from someone is not the same as you spending wastefully.

Increasing revenue does not control wasteful spending, in fact it often worsens it.

Not to mention that many breaks and subsidies are incentives. Without them you wouldn’t get more tax revenue, in many cases you’d get none.

Here, I’ll explain the absurdity of that argument simply.

I offer to lease
Bob office space for $5000 instead of $8000 if he agrees to lease in the declining area of town. He agrees.
I then spend $4000 of it getting a boob job for my pet rock and the other $1000 on a study of the impact of C cups on my rocks happiness.
Now I’m broke.

Me: Damn, I should have charged Bob the full $8000.
