@NSeanchai Problem is twofold.
1. They had one bad encounter with a mindless enemy and got cold feet for life.
2. Because the raw damage values don't hit fighter/barb/magus crit levels and don't realise how insanely useful decent damage + inflicting multiple stacks of frightened is.
@NSeanchai It's just the 5e forum arguments all over again, just microcosm'd on a space the whiners realise they may have a chance of influencing since WotC's gotten too big to touch.
@NSeanchai The whiners just want to bully the RAW into being exactly what they want so they can in turn bully all their tables into playing how they want using RAW as justification.
All the platitudes about house rules and homebrew was purely in service of that.
It's clear a lot of you are new here. Let me walk you through somethin.
Women have been fighting decades to get games to stop portraying them like Stellar Blade
This same studio on the left had to fight just to get Ellie shown on the cover of The Last of Us in 2013
The time is coming. You cannot prepare.

@NSeanchai I do think slow fail and crit fail are in fact slightly overtuned, but it's funny because it's always the reddit pedants whining about how their saves never fail who say it's simultaneously fine it's overtuned, and bad no other spells are as good...
@NSeanchai It's definitely above the curve and a solid generalist damage pick, but you're still better using ignition on a creature with fire weakness or ND to target a material weakness.
@NSeanchai The fail effect might need a teeny bit of a nerf at worst, but its whole shtick is being a reliable spell attack cantrip when most aren't.
You don't get easy damage bypass or weakness targeting, you don't get mutlitarget, d6 cantrips like TP do more damage on a success...
