@JimSterling The corporate culture of "it's optional" *wink wink* is so deeply instilled that people do it without question. My mate who works at Rockstar North routinely works weekends & mentioned that most of his team do also. Looking both ways before crossing a busy road is "optional" too.
@thebenlusted About 10 years back some EA employee emails leaked which revealed that not only were they working 70 weeks but they also didn't receive promised bonus pay due to the games not meeting sales targets. Worth looking up if you're interested.
@thebenlusted It's pretty common in AAA development and in fairness some indie studios as well to work in excess of 70 hour weeks, the real question is did they get paid for the extra hours.
