We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gary Rowell.
A Sunderland icon and legendary goalscorer. Tomorrow, Wearside will come together and pay tribute to him ahead of a fixture he made his own.
Rest in peace, Gary ❤️🤍
I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Ricky Hatton. He was not only a great fighter inside the ring but also a brave and kind man in life. We shared unforgettable moments in boxing history and I will always honor the respect and sportsmanship he showed. Ricky fought bravely, not just in the ring, but in his journey through life. He truly had a good fight, and we are all blessed to have been part of his wonderful journey.
My prayers and deepest condolences go out to the Hatton family and all his loved ones. May the Lord give you strength and comfort in this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
Here’s what Wilson Isidor said to me:
💬 “No words. The last 24 hours has been a rush. My daughter came. I didn’t sleep & today I score the winner in the PL for the team I love the most.
“This is for the fans, my daughter & my partner. Of course my daughter is a Mackem!” #SAFC
Being there last night actually felt epic.
The Fathers & the sons combined to give the fans more than just a hyped up boxing match.
Snr turning up was sensational, the ring walks - Eubank was probably the best I’ve ever seen live - then seeing both dads in opposite corners of the ring again was incredible for those is us that watched their rivalry years ago.
But the sons more than delivered on their family names & the legacy of the Eubank v Benn story.
I can’t believe what they put themselves through during those last 6 minutes.
The fight may have happened because of their dad’s originally, but it’s ended being all about Chris & Conor.
Incredible from both.
Nuts & guts, sheer will to win.
Congratulations to both.
That was Epic.

Tonight’s shameful scenes do not represent our culture, our history, or our people. Our great city is built on togetherness and acceptance, and Sunderland will forever be for all. We are stronger as one community. Now. Then. Always. ❤️🤍
