1. Tom Cotton is the worst
2. He is wrong, we incarcerate way too many people for way too long in prisons and jails that make people worse not better

If you really care about public safety:
Invest in impacted communities, and invest in giving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people a pathway to success
Otherwise, just admit you are more interested in revenge
One of the things that I hate the most about our justice system is that it makes it against everyone's interest to accept responsibility and actually be accountable for the harm caused
You are, in a sense, penalized for admitting what you did
Accepting the omnipresent violence in prison does NOTHING to make our society safer or better...it confuses vengeance with justice and piles trauma on top trauma....Trauma creates more violence
@JoshuaBHoe Resources and availability of them is big. Having nothing to do or ineligibility of the limited supply of programs and activities can be a contributing factor.
One thing I forgot to mention:
JAILS - where people are often incarcerated pretrial (not necessarily guilty of anything - are a whole different level of violent and often from the second you walk in
Prisons are bad...but jails are a never-ending parade of violence
Quick update hired an attorney two mths ago, Jason moved 2.5 hrs away but it’s doing very well. Mentally he has not had an episode in 3 mths & working hard at maintaining his health. Girls are healthy & gearing up for upcoming school yr.
I was so naive when my son was arrested. I thought punishment is a prison, guard towers. That's JUST the first layer of punishment. You lose your identity, you're a number, no longer a part of humanity. Imagine layers upon layers pounded into you- you aren't shit. 💔
This seems more of a reactive approach & don’t see how it prevents abuse. All too often good families r drugged thru heck & back on an allegation that prove false. Then those cases where the government fails to step in even w/trail of records & it ends in tragedy.
The same as the SOR - this registry will do more harm to families than good. Please stop the madness - Gov. Whitmer signs ‘Wyatt’s law’ creating child abuse registry https://t.co/CIx7kO6KqG
Incarceration isn't a solution to problems like drugs & violence. What we need is actual #CriminalJustice. The difference is empathy – going beyond just punishing an individual to address systemic causes. https://t.co/SjFBKPGe0y

Incarceration DOES NOT make us any safer.
Incarceration DOES NOT prevent crime.
Incarceration DOES tear up communities and families.
Incarceration DOES take one’s humanity.
We need to STOP locking ppl up and really focus on the person and their TRAUMA
