God deeply cares about two things; justice and mercy. God isn’t willing to merely forgive the sins of man without cost, because that wouldn’t be just. God loves man, and wants to be merciful to him, while at the same time not compromising on His perfect justice. This is why God incarnated into flesh as Jesus Christ, and died on the cross. He decided to take the punishment WE DESERVED as an act of love for us. Christ is the fulfillment of the law of God and the manifestation of His mercy.
