A large portion of our city’s budget goes towards repaying loans with interest to Wall Street banks instead of investing in affordable housing, education & public services. It's time for LA to regain control over our finances & create a public bank! #peoplesbank@FixLANow
Huge news! The Economic Committee, led by Chair @CurrenDPriceJr and Councilmembers @HugoForCD13 and Park, moves forward with funding the Los Angeles public bank RFP, paving the way for a bank that directly serves the needs of LA communities.
We're out here tabling at the @SunriseMvmtLA block party, connecting with the community on the benefits of a public bank that will leverage its deposit base & lending power to benefit LA residents with affordable housing, sustainability initiatives & critical community needs.🌱
BREAKING! Back-to-back wins in CA & LA. Los Angeles City Council unanimously approves motion authorizing public bank action plan, the 1st municipal bank in the US. #PublicBankLA will reinvest profits in the public interest, putting the power of capital in the hands of the people.
Today @GavinNewsom signed #AB1177 , the California Public Banking Option Act, which sets into motion the creation of the CalAccount program, which would guarantee basic banking services to all Californians without fees or penalties.
I suspect financing issues are actually zoning issues. This type of building is allowed so rarely in America that I can see why it wouldn’t make sense for banks to spend resources creating loan products for it
My comments to the Budget & Finance Committee:
We have to look at spending in relation to the TOTAL city budget. 250k LA households live in poverty. @MayorOfLA is budgeting $179.7M to key "Justice & Equity Programs". That's 1.6% of the city budget. That is not just or equitable.
@PostDuhh@spieltimes@GYXdeals It might added to a blocklist, but different devices, and trying at a different time will also be fine. More likely the risk score of this specific transaction will trip a blocker, not a perma-ban.
more than anything, more than any retweet, more than any book you'll read, more than vote you can cast, i desperately hope you join or start a grassroots organization and fight for our collective liberation
One fun thing about having a toddler is how relentlessly they point out all public services in eyesight at any given moment.
Mail trucks! Fire engines! Playgrounds! Buses! Libraries! Bridges! Ambulances!
And they're right! Public goods are amazing.
