Here's the medical breakdown on the current situation of Charlie Kirk:

The injury made by the bullet is very similar to that hockey skate throat slash of Petgraves against Adam Johnson in 2023 - instant opening of the artery that leads to the brain, major instant loss of blood. Not unlike what Iryna Zarutska went through.

The problem with these injuries is that they cut the vast majority of the blood flow to the brain. They also lead to some of the biggest blood losses in mere seconds.

If a competent health person was present and immediately compressed the neck area, this means that the bleeding may have been contained thus maintaining the rest of the body's functionalities.

However, time is critical even then because the compression of the neck generally does not resolve the issue that the brain is being deprived of oxygen. Without immediate intervention, the brain can make it about 30 seconds in that state before severe damage or death.

That being said, it is possible that compression to the neck repositions the artery in a way that restores partial blood flow to the brain. With proper compression (not too strong, not too soft), it is not impossible that this period where the brain can survive can be extended to minutes, even perhaps 30 minutes.

We now know that Charlie is alive, which generally means that his heart is beating and he is breathing. This could indicate that perhaps his brainstem is not damaged to the point of irreversibility - or it may mean that he has been put on artificial breathing anywhere between the helicopter and the hospital.

What will matter is how much these remedial steps have allowed to extend the life of Charlie's brain on his way to the hospital. He could be brain dead forever, or he could recover, it's all about what was done with him and his neck in the first minutes after the shooting.
