Check out my new blog post: "Peer support of teaching in college higher education, in the context of the Teaching Excellence Framework" https://t.co/0lmDf2Uv62 via @BERANews@AoC_info#TheScholarshipProject
Thanks for a great discussion, guys. Lots of interesting points made. Keep looking out for future #sche chats, and if you want to discuss this topic further, please email: [email protected]
@Phil_NCD A4 My research has definitely found some tension between the needs of staff, and the needs of management, from the process. FECs interpretation of TEF, and how it can be exploited could push towards an audit approach of peer obs, which will hurt the ethos of peer obs #sche
@Phil_NCD Q3. This is my concern, too .... especially in our sector who have been faced with that for years re: OfSTED.
What is the difference between gold, silver, bronze and Outstanding, good, requires improvement..... ? #sche
@jennywahwah I'm not surprised that such a high amount of FECs mention Teaching Observation in their reports, however, it would be interesting to delve deeper as to whether these teaching observations are peer or formal? #sche
@Phil_NCD@jennywahwah Agree Phil re: the developmental element of Peer Obs... however, our sector is often at the mercy of an audit culture that there is often resistance to this type of thing #sche
Q3. Recent research has suggested that 50% of students would not apply / reconsider applying for a bronze rated institution.
With this in mind, do you think there will be a shift away from peer obs towards more formal obs in CbHE? #SCHE
@jennywahwah A2. I personally can't forsee an OfSTED style approach to the TEF anytime soon, however, the methods in which Teaching is measured are heavily focussed on NSS results, which have their own limitations. #SCHE
