I have no particular expertise in this area at all, but I guess as a layman it always struck me as historically unusual that modern Britain focuses its efforts on land power?

@richardmarcj Spoke to someone in FCDO recently since I too was at a total loss as to why we are doing this. Turns out it’s literally just the international law thing. They have no other reason (although FCDO has seen our territories abroad as burdens rather than assets since the 1950s/Suez).
