you deleted a note out of your claude.md because it was eating context

block level html comments are stripped before the file is ever injected, they have always cost zero

so the thing you removed was free,

and the directory listing you kept is the part the model can work out from the repo on its own

the two hundred line target is about adherence and not about cost,

longer files get followed less consistently,

which is a different problem with a different fix

cut duplicates and cut what the code already says

put the maintainer notes back in html comments and never pay for them again

you were not saving context

you were deleting the only free thing in the file
