Anyone who thought João Fonseca was ‘over-hyped’ just got silenced really quickly.
After having an incredible season for an 18 year old last year, some tennis fans got caught up in every one of his results as opposed to being caught up in his potential.
But he has a good head on his shoulders and a good team around him. So instead of getting wrapped up in every result he has between the ages of 18 and 19, he got wrapped up in the work ahead of him.
He believes in his potential and is following his path. The road to being great is not linear. There are ups and downs, but he’s managing them as well as any teenager can.
Scrutinizing every result he has as a teenager is not realistic. Instead, judge him on what’s plain for everyone with eyes to see… his sensational talent, his tireless work ethic, and his humility in his wins as well as his defeats.
Those are the qualities that make a champion.
