@EduTalkTz @KennedyMmari As you approach the earth due to its size the craft gains momentum (Newton law of gravitation), small fuel is burnt to align the craft with the re-entry corridor, service module is discarded leaving crew module only and the momentum gained is lost in the heat of re-entry.

@EduTalkTz @KennedyMmari Due to this the craft has to burn fuel to lose momentum and be captured by moon gravity. Also, more fuel is burnt to lose altitude and descend to the moon surface until touchdown. On the way home fuel is burnt to launch and also escape moon's gravity then glide home.
