A cracking performance from the U23s today, securing a win in the Minor Cup on the road away to Ellington. Goals for Billy Foster (2), Jack Edgar (2) and Daniel Te. 🔵⭐️

"Tough, physical game against a team who’s average age was around 28.

"We went 0-1 up after 6 mins when Colin’s held the the ball up and played off for Jack Edgar to smash into the bottom corner.
We created numerous chances but just to be fair, Ellington’s older experienced lads held us till just before half time.

"A hand ball in the box and Billy Foster expertly dispatched into the top corner to go in 0-2 up at half time.

"2nd half got underway and only 3 minutes in, Billy Fosters goal of the season contender, a screamer half volley from 28 yards to the top corner leaving the keeper rooted, 0-3.

"A 4th soon followed, Zack Thomas with great work down the line and crossed for Jack Edgar who’s crashing volley made it 0-4.
Ellington made it 1-4 from the penalty spot, after a case of holding.

"Blue Star then turned it back on and a break from his own half saw Alex Humble race clear, drawing defenders across to the left then slid a beautiful through ball to Daniel Te who smashed the ball home to make it 1-5.

"Final seconds of a tiring game saw Ellington pull one more back but the game was Blue Stars.

"Outstanding performances all over the pitch, a difficult choice for Man of the Match, but we went with Matty Telfer who was faultless."

Newcastle Blue Star are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Harris, as our new Under 23’s manager.

Paul joins Blue Star with 13 years of coaching under his belt, having coached at clubs such as Gateshead FC, Sunderland AFC and South Shields FC.

Qualified to a UEFA B standard, Paul works full-time in schools and colleges, coaching and developing elite players through video analysis sessions.

Speaking on his appointment, Paul stated he is “looking forward to the challenge ahead and hopes to take the club forward.”

Paul will be joined by his assistants – Shannon McSweeney and Paul Freestone, who both have a wealth of experience within the game.

Shannon is currently the director of girl's football at Improtech and the head coach at Boldon FC Ladies. Paul Freestone meanwhile is also UEFA B qualified having previously managed Wallsend seniors.

Speedy recovery, Ben. 🤞🏼

A few weeks ago Ben Brougham, one of our U18/23 players, suffered ACL / PCL damage along-with a fractured tibia following a nasty challenge playing for U23’s.

Ben’s already had his first operation on his tibia and is due another in the upcoming months on his knee.

Unfortunately he is facing a very long stint on the sidelines and will be a massive miss to both teams this season.

Everyone at NBSFC wishes him a healthy recovery, and we’re sure he will comeback fitter and stronger than ever.
