I’ve always believed the No.1 application of AI should be to improve human health.
That work started with AlphaFold, and now at @IsomorphicLabs with the mission to reimagine drug discovery and one day solve all disease!
We are turbocharging that goal with $2.1B in new funding.
We did it. Just 18 months ago Labour said a social media ban was not something they were considering. They have now finally committed to social media restrictions for under 16s. This is a huge victory and a pivotal moment for children across our country after months of delay and empty promises.
This is down to the courage of bereaved parents who fought not for their own children but for other peoples children. They are the reason I kept fighting and the reason I would not accept a timetable that allowed the Government to avoid action in this Parliament. We now have a more credible delivery timeline and that matters because every month of delay leaves more children exposed to harm.
This victory also belongs to the hard work of Lord Nash, teachers, health professionals, parents and children who spoke out and refused to be ignored. Conservatives in opposition said we would fight to protect childhood and stand with parents and we have shown we will hold the Government to account and deliver change.
Four times. The House of Lords has now voted four times to raise the social media age limit to 16. The message couldn’t be clearer. Government; it’s time to listen & act. We can’t wait for another consultation. #SocialMedia#Over16 https://t.co/c7h5f6C5AA

The UK has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform how we assess driver eyesight, and the eye care sector must be united in its response. https://t.co/80OMgvYeoT
Clinical governance isn’t admin. It’s culture. It’s leadership. It’s how we protect patients when systems are under pressure.

One train an hour, and no direct link to London.
That’s not good enough for Bury St Edmunds.
I raised this in Parliament - improvements are coming, and I’ll keep pushing for more! 🚂
Sound advice for all! “I don't want people looking at the smartphone more than they're looking in someone's eyes, because if they're just scrolling endlessly, this is not the way you wanna spend your day. Go out and spend it in nature.” Tim Cook CEO @apple https://t.co/zrmEAQNlPX
I’ve been calling for stronger support for the BBC World Service since entering Parliament, so this funding boost is a really welcome step forward!
In a world of growing disinformation, backing trusted, independent journalism has never been more important. #BBCWorldService
@Peston Nice interview as always! I think you have the wrong David Frost in your show notes! It would be impressive to interview the legendary Sir David!

When it comes to children we’ve always applied a precautionary principle with what we give them. Yet this has fallen away with screens & smartphones. It doesn’t have to be this way. It was fab to be joined by experts & campaigners today to discuss the harms & what more we can do.
