You don’t need to have it all figured out or achieved right now.
You can afford take your time—but you can’t afford to waste it.
Be intentional. Stay self-aware. Reflect on your process.
Whether you are walking 2 miles or running 10 miles, each requires steps.
Each step forward gets you closer to that mile marker.
When goals feel overwhelming, focus on the next step you can take to get closer. Just the next little step.
Watch as those steps add up to miles
Butterflies struggle to emerge from their cocoons. This struggle moves fluid from their body into their wings, strengthens the wings and helps develop the muscles needed to fly.
Maybe the challenges we are facing now are preparing us to fly.
So keep going.
There is a difference between what happened and how you feel about what happened.
To be objective in reflections and decisions we should do our best to separate these two things.
Acknowledge both, but take time
to separate them to avoid confusing feelings and facts.
Can you accept that you are struggling right now and still hold the belief that in the end you will succeed?
Even if you aren’t currently confident in that new skill, your new role, this new situation- be confident in your ability to overcome obstacles.
You’ve done it before.
Perspective is key in overcoming obstacles on our path. The way you talk to yourself about a situation will affect how you approach it.
Instead of a problem that you are the victim of, can you view it as a challenge that you will overcome.
Neglect comes at a cost.
Relationships fade.
Skills diminish.
Team culture crumbles.
Stability and consistency require energy.
Simplicity requires effort.
It’s hard to be disciplined and show up & put in effort day after day.
It’s hard to not meet your own expectations and not reach your potential.
Choose your hard
Our emotions can dictate our actions but they don’t have too.
If we decide only to act on the days when we feel 100% confident we won’t get much done.
So do it, even when you’re scared it won’t be perfect.
Mountains are meant to be climbed. Life is meant to challenge you. Challenges will find you on every path.
So don't see a challenge as a sign to quit, turn away or look for something easier to do.
The challenge is your mountain and again, mountains were meant to be climbed.
It’s hard to get back up and try again after failures and setbacks.
It’s hard to live with the regret of not giving it your all when you had the opportunity.
Choose your hard.
Check in with yourself throughout the day and see what you’re focused on:
- Is your focus on something you can control?
- Is your focus situationally relevant and productive?
Make sure your focus is working for you not against you.
Nervous to give or struggling to receive tough feedback? Remember:
Nice people won’t have hard conversations because they want everyone to be comfortable.
But growth doesn’t happen inside our comfort zone.
Kind people risk discomfort because they care about your growth.
If our time is limited may we spend majority of it focused on things in our control.
Those are the only areas that will feel the impact of our thoughts and energy.
It may feel better in the moment to do what everyone else is doing.
But remember you don’t become elite by taking the common path or making the average choice.
You become elite by creating a path that gets you closer to your goals. You become elite by making elite choices.
As a society we are taught to be proud of the results, the polished skill. Not all the trails and failures that got us to that final polished result.
But you should be proud of both. It’s not easy to work through failures and struggles but that’s how you grow.
