The astonishing tale of the flamboyant Kenyan lawyer entangled in Equity Bank’s Ksh1.5 billion fraud. Enter Counsel Esther Bitutu Kadiki. As Kenyans were busy on the street during the June 25th 2024 protests, a different storm was quietly unfolding,, this time within the fortified walls of Equity Bank.
Between May and July 2024, the bank was bled of an eye-watering Ksh1.5 billion in what has been dubbed one of the boldest financial scams in the country’s history. At the heart of the scheme stood a sharp-witted Nairobi advocate with charm, cunning, and courtroom finesse, Esther Bitutu Kadiki.
Investigators allege that Kadiki, who had just earned a nomination for the prestigious Africa Golden Awards, exploited her legal prowess to forge contracts and front shell companies.
Her ace card was an insider, the Equity Bank manager David Kimani Muchiri. From the bank’s internal Salaries Remittance General Ledger, money began to vanish through cleverly disguised transfers.
Not once, not twice, but 47 separate fraudulent transactions. By the time the plot was uncovered on July 10, 2024, Esther and her associates had already pocketed staggering amounts. Her firm, Kadiki & Advocates, and one of her companies, Inforide Point Ltd, had received tens of millions, Ksh38M to the latter alone.
By her arrest in May 2025, detectives had followed the trail of billions through murky land deals, phantom meat-export ventures, and even hints of cryptocurrency wallets. When she finally appeared in court, it wasn’t in handcuffs but in stilettos & Gucci bag leaving on a Ksh30M bond.
The case is far from over.

Hon. @Muthomi_Njuki the money belongs to the taxpayer. The services we offer are directed to the taxpayer. Why are you guys so rigid? Let us be transitioned to PNP gratuity tutatafta sisi wenyewe mbele. What is your problem sir with our gratuity. Give us PNP first.
We reject @KenyaGovernors press statements concerning the UHC staff transitioning to PnP terms.
Allow our issues to be handled by our employer now @HonAdenDuale@KenyaGovernors has proved from the start incapable of transitioning us to PnP while sabotaging us for 5 years now!
