It actually isn't an exaggeration to compare the mainstream worldview to the virtual world depicted in The Matrix. The only difference is instead of AI keeping us imprisoned, it's psychopathic oligarchs and secretive government agencies, and instead of code, it's narrative.

I started the brexit campaign undecided, because the decision was so complicated. Both sides (on social media) treated me like I'm an idiot, because their side was so obviously correct.
