This gives you a sense of the enormity of a show at @SphereVegas . Saw No Doubt there tonight. This is a view from a suite. When artists say the venue is bigger than the band this is an example of what they mean. Thx to Matt Larsen for the invite.
#Angels Mike Trout is the all-time OPS leader in Tropicana Field history (min. 130 PA).
With the homer, Trout now has a 1.083 OPS at the Trop. Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez is second (1.022 OPS).
We are saddened by the passing of former Braves third baseman Bob Horner.
The first overall pick in the 1978 MLB Draft, Horner made the jump straight to the Majors without playing a single day in the Minors.
Just ten days after being drafted, Horner made his MLB debut and homered off future Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven. Horner went on to blast 23 home runs in just 89 games and won NL Rookie of the Year honors.
He went on to top the 30-homer mark three times in the next four years and was a National League All-Star in 1982, when he helped lead the Atlanta Braves to a division title.
Horner spent 9 of his 10 Major League seasons with the Braves. He made history on July 6, 1986 when he slugged a record-tying 4 home runs in one game. It was the only four-homer game of the 1980s.
Horner completed his college career at Arizona State with the most home runs in NCAA history, a mark since broken. He was named MVP of the 1977 College World Series and was the very first winner of the prestigious Golden Spikes Award in 1978.
He was 68 years old.
Hitting your first career home run is an unbelievable feeling in and of itself. But to do it in your first game with your childhood team with your favorite player growing up waiting to congratulate you at home plate?
“It’s pretty surreal.”

45 years ago today, Yale's Ron Darling & St. John's Frank Viola matched up in the greatest college pitching duel ever.
Both starters made it through 11 scoreless innings.
Darling didn't allow a hit until the 12th inning but St. Johns won 1-0.
What a period for Buffalo. Even better period for Sean McDonough. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. I’m not sure there is a better announcer on the planet than McDonough. It doesn’t matter the sport either. He is great at everything.
Final: #Angels 8, #WhiteSox 2: Walbert Ureña allows 1 ER in 6 IP to get his first career win. Travis d'Arnaud hits a three-run homer for his first HR/RBIs of the year. First time Angels have won back-to-back games since April 16-17 and first series win since April 10-12 in Cincy.

Shout out to the great @WayneRandazzo for this insane #Angels stat that shows you just how much better this team can/should be with even a league-average bullpen.
Angels rotation last 16 games:
3.31 ERA. 5th best in MLB.
Record: 4-12

Jack Kochanowicz had another quality start for the Angels today, but it still wasn’t enough to get the win. The offense wasn’t there, and the bullpen was terrible once again.
The Angels had just 6 hits today, went 1 for 3 with runners in scoring position, and struck out 11 times. You’re just not going to win many games like that.
Kochanowicz: 6.1IP 5H 2ER 3BB 6SO 3.05 ERA
Saucedo: 0.2IP 0H 1ER 2SO 13.50 ERA
Sandlin: 1.0IP 2H 2ER 1BB 0SO 11.42 ERA
Pomeranz: 1.0IP 0H 0ER 0BB 1SO 8.53 ERA
He threw the ball well, and Suzuki let him get up to 110 pitches this time. He didn’t have his best stuff, but he still did a good job keeping the Angels in it.
This has to be demoralizing for the starters. They’re keeping this team in games, only to get no offensive support or watch the bullpen throw it all away.

Honestly, nothing the Angels do is surprising anymore. You can blame the loss on Urena getting hurt after pitching well, the offense doing nothing after the 3rd inning, or the bullpen blowing another lead. It doesn’t really matter, they just keep finding ways to lose.
Urena: 5 IP | 2 H | 1 ER | 3 BB | 4 SO | 3.86 ERA
I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Walbert. When he’s on, he’s really effective. He’s only 22 and has been thrown into a role no one expected him to have this season. I hope that he is ok and not gonna miss anytime.
That said, the Angels struck out 14 more times tonight, the bullpen’s been awful, and they’ve now lost 7 straight against “struggling” teams.
As per my usual post lately, Perry is an awful GM and Arte needs to sell the team!

Angels have 11 blown saves on the season now. That is 11 wins turned into losses by the worst bullpen ever assembled.
23-9 turned into 12-20
No excuse for it. Perry Minasian should not be allowed to finish his 1-yr extension and then be fired tonight. #RepTheHalo#Angels
Been a busy day for me, but I still made time to watch the Angels game while I was on the go. It was the same story again. They had the lead going into the bottom of the 9th, the bullpen gave it up, and they ended up losing in extras.
Kikuchi had to leave early with shoulder tightness. The offense only put up 2 runs on 6 hits, and the only scoring came from solo homers by Trout and Grissom.
That’s now 6 straight losses. They’ve been swept by the Royals and White Sox, and now head home to face a Mets team that’s also struggling, losing 7 of their last 10.
Tomorrow is a much needed day off for these guys. Hopefully they can reset a bit and start turning things around. I’m not necessarily saying it should happen, but if this keeps up, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Suzuki gone soon. Perry should be right behind him as well!
