With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Coach Ron Rodgers, a cherished mentor, coach, and lifelong inspiration to our Flour Bluff family. “Coach ‘Capt’ Rodgers loved everything about being a Hornet and dedicated his life to helping our student-athletes on and off the field. His passion, commitment, and unwavering belief in his players left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him. He will forever be a part of Flour Bluff ISD, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched. Once a Hornet, always a Hornet.” Chris Steinbruck, FBISD Superintendent of Schools

With over 46 years of coaching, Coach Rodgers was more than a mentor—he was a guiding force. His passion, wisdom, and unwavering belief in his players shaped them into not just stronger athletes, but better people. His legacy is one of dedication, heart, and an unbreakable commitment to those around him.

“Coach Ron Rodgers became part of our Flour Bluff family in 2014 as our Assistant Head Football Coach and Offensive Line Coach. He poured his heart and soul into our student-athletes, always pushing them to be their best while caring for them like his own. His love for the game was undeniable, but his love for his players was even greater—especially his offensive linemen, who held a special place in his heart. Above all, his greatest joy was his granddaughter, Tinley. She was his shining star, and he spoke of her with endless love and pride.” —Clynton Elwood, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach

Our hearts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. We invite everyone to share memories and photos as we honor Coach Ron Rodgers’ incredible legacy. Counselors, coaches, and staff will be available to support students this week.
