The NBA will have a different champion for the eighth straight season, extending the longest such streak in league history.
The NBA Finals begin Wednesday, June 3 at 8:30 PM ET on ABC.
This piece on Coach Kerr from Wright Thompson is extraordinary. Everyone who is interested in good writing, good craft, or good coaching should read it and savor it. My god is it good.

ABOUT THE SPEECH: First of all: let’s all give Zohran Mamdani his due. He just did the impossible — beat Democratic royalty (the Cuomos), beat the money, beat the machine and then pushed past Trump himself to become the first Muslim mayor of America’s biggest city. That’s a huge accomplishment.
With this upset win, he has already written his name in American history books. And he’s only 34 years old.
The pride and energy you’re seeing from his supporters is hard earned and well-deserved.
That said: I would be remiss if I didn’t flag something I noticed during last night’s victory speech. The Mamdani on stage last night seemed like a different Mamdani than the one who won people over on the campaign trail.
While campaigning, Mamdani was calm, warm, inclusive — the kind of guy who built a big tent that might have a place for everyone. But last night, his tone was sharper. His voice was louder. His rhetoric was harsher. His famous smile and sense of humor were mostly absent.
His many supporters loved it. But others just couldn’t relate.
That was a missed opportunity.
I greatly preferred Mamdani’s FIRST victory speech — the one he gave when he first upset Cuomo and burst onto the global stage this summer. It was brilliant, warm, sunny, inviting. If he goes back to that mode — the world could be his oyster.
Fortunately, as he continues to make history, Mamdani will have many, many more speeches to give
I'm so sad, is the truth. Genuinely. Heavy of heart. Sad for the loss of a productive and ambitious 31 year old to the rage of an assassin. Sad for his family. Sad for us that we are living in a degraded time. Sad for my kids that this is the America they know.
The guy has paid his taxes and lived a law abiding life in Los Angeles for decades. Raised three sons, all joined the U.S. Marines. Two of them are currently active duty. This is a national disgrace.
Much of our media will ‘both sides’ us into fascism.
The idea that there is any kind of equivalence between the senator asking a question, even if a stunt!, and him then being assaulted and detained by police/federal agents is insane.
Let’s be candid here. The through line in Democratic Party politics 2008 to 2020 is the emergence of the black community as the party’s base. In 2008, black voters (with fond memories of Bill Clinton) were with Hillary until Barack Obama convinced them to come over to his side. In 2016 and 2020, Bernie Sanders’ inability to attract any significant black support doomed his candidacy. To keep saying that the DNC rigged 2016 and 2020 against him is actually to dismiss the importance of black voters in the Democratic Party (as dumb as a GOP candidate ignoring white evangelicals) — voters who are instinctively not as far to the left as the Sanders socialists would prefer.
