I’m excited to share our new paper “Perpendicular Subcritical Shock Structure in a Collisional Plasma Experiment”. We show agreement with two theoretical predictions for the first time in experiments at the MAGPIE facility. https://t.co/CnLgdIKlvd
An exciting NEW PAPER from Stefano Merlini on ArXiv presenting experiments investigating one of my favourite topics, radiative cooling at shocks! A lot of beautiful experimental data in this one.

Bonus - not included in the paper: an optical self-emission long exposure image of one of the experiments. Or in other words, a photo taken with a standard off-the-shelf DSLR. Suggestions welcome for what the colours mean!
I am happy to share our second paper on subcritical shocks from the MAGPIE lab. We produce shocks by placing obstacles into a supermagnetosonic plasma flow https://t.co/BRsPEE1pN0
We use the results to benchmark both the Gorgon and AstroBEAR MHD codes. We find agreement for most plasma parameters. However, some differences could not be resolved which we attribute to two-fluid effects.

This month I started a new postdoc in the NEPOMUC group at the research neutron source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II). Learning a new field and a new language kind of feels like undergrad again!
I’m excited to be advertising for a postdoc position supported by my @UKRI_News FLF! The position will be focused on doing kinetic simulations of magnetised, weakly collisional plasmas, aiming to understand their exotic properties. More details here: https://t.co/aWb9eBXYQu
New paper discussing MHD simulations of colliding plasma flows with relevance to astrophysical jets and laboratory experiments. https://t.co/ElfpU0m2wP
(1/2) Our RSI paper which describes a new plasma diagnostic technique for velocity and ion sound speed measurements is now available here:

A masterclass in "science populism" on the @guardian : promoting false crisis without nuance or doubt, sweeping generalisation from anecdotal (at best) evidence, straw man arguments, casting doubts on the integrity of scientists.. So bad it's worth a read https://t.co/EkDtyzwuAW
