Last year, when I was struggling to sort out my rent and was short on cash, the issue came up during one of our random conversations.

She simply asked, “how much do you need?”
I told her the amount.
She replied, “I don’t have everything right now because I’m sorting out some things myself, but I’ll send what I can.”
She ended up covering about half of my rent.
A few days later, she checked back in “Have you paid your rent yet? I want to ask someone to send you the rest.”
I told her, “Mama, you’ve done more than enough. I’ve sorted it already.”

Omoh, I was touched because we just met on X and we barely know each other.
She saw a need and willingly stepped in, without pressure or drama.

Before that same time, I was helping promote someone’s project and casually mentioned my situation to the leader of the group. All I got was “Don’t worry.” Nothing ever came of it, even though I watched him do public giveaways. He didn’t owe me anything, so I let it go.

Mama, I celebrate you in my own quiet way. I may not be loud about it, but in my heart, I know what you mean to me.
A heart of kindness and generosity like yours is hard to come by.
I do not take any of your goodness for granted.

I watched the electrician who worked on our new space cry because of a bank transaction.

I’ve known this young man for years. Everywhere I’ve lived in Abuja, he’s been the one I call whenever I need electrical work done. I’m extremely loyal to people who have earned my trust.

I can comfortably ask him to go to my house in my absence and fix something without worrying about a thing.

When we moved into our new space, I called him to disconnect all the chandeliers from my former office and install them in the new one. It wasn’t an easy job, but he did it. It was even done in my absence. He also installed the generator and handled so many other electrical jobs in our new space

After he finished, I transferred his payment. The transaction showed successful, and he confirmed he had received the alert before leaving my place.

The next day, he called me and said the money had bounced back to my account.

I told him that wasn’t possible because the transfer was successful on my end.

He kept insisting the money had been reversed because he uses opay account so it showed transaction failed from his end, while I insisted I hadn’t received any reversal. I even checked my account and requested for statement of account but nothing showed it was reversed.

Then he broke down in tears.

He said that payment was his saving grace. He hadn’t gotten a job in a long time, and this project had come at the right time. He reminded me that we’ve known each other for years and that he would never do anything to betray my trust.

Seeing him cry weakened me.

I immediately called First Bank. They investigated the transaction and asked me to give them 24 hours to resolve it.

Today, they finally rectified the issue.

I still feel bad because, from his perspective, it looked like I didn’t believe him. Meanwhile, from my own end, I genuinely had no evidence that the money had been reversed because the transaction still showed successful.

Technology is good, but sometimes it fails us in ways that can damage trust between honest people.

Please, First Bank, take your time and make sure these issues don’t happen. A delayed or failed transaction is more than just money, it can put relationships and people’s peace of mind at risk.
