KAJIADO 2027: KATOO RETURNS, ODM COLLAPSES, A NEW TITANIC BATTLE EMERGES:

The Kajiado gubernatorial race is rapidly shaping into a high-stakes showdown between two dominant political forces.

Former gubernatorial candidate and current State House Comptroller Dr. Katoo Ole Metito has stormed back into the race with a commanding 55.9% under the UDA banner, positioning himself as the clear frontrunner after narrowly losing to Governor Ole Lenku in 2022.

Facing him is current Kajiado Senator Samuel Seki, who enters the contest through the DCP ticket with 25.4%, emerging as the main opposition challenger.

Meanwhile, ODM — the party that delivered the governorship in 2022 — appears to have significantly weakened in Kajiado. Its candidate, Martin Moshisho, trails far behind at 2.6%, signaling a major collapse of ODM momentum within the county.

Mizani Africa Insight:
The data suggests Kajiado politics is undergoing a major realignment. Dr. Katoo’s return through UDA appears to have consolidated a broad support coalition, while DCP is emerging as the primary resistance force through Senator Seki.
The race is increasingly shifting away from a multi-candidate contest into a direct UDA vs DCP gubernatorial battle for control of Kajiado County

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan held extensive discussions with Principal Secretaries from the Coast region who included Shadrack Mwadime (Labour and Skills Development), Idriss Salim Dokota (Cabinet Affairs), Abubakar Hassan (Investments) and Mohamed Daghar (Transport).

The Principal Secretaries highlighted the enormous strides made in delivering the government's manifesto, The Plan - The Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). These include key flagship areas, including the commencement of work towards the development of the Special Economic Zones in Dongo Kundu and Vipingo, housing, the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project, completion of major infrastructure projects, construction of markets, investment in the Blue Economy, expanded opportunities in mining particularly in Mrima Hills, the numerous job creation programmes, health care among others.

The Secretary General told the Principal Secretaries that they had made the region proud and permanently purged the stereotypes associated with the Coast region through sheer hard work, professionalism, and an unparalleled commitment to duty and country.

The Secretary General urged the Principal Secretaries to now be in the front line of articulating the unparalleled achievement of the Broad-based government.

No government has since independence lifted the Coast region and other minorities from pervasive ethno-stereotypes and marginalisation like the Broad-based government under President William Ruto.

The UDA Grassroots Election Sensitization session for Kiambu County's Githunguri constituency held at Kiamachani Village, Githiga
attracted key leaders, including National Assembly Majority Leader Hon Kimani Ichung’wah, host MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, and her Juja counterpart George Koimburi among others.

The leaders emphasized the importance of transparent, peaceful, and all inclusive grassroots elections as a foundation for strengthening the party’s democratic structures.
