Abortion need to be legalized in Nigeria. I'll explain why.

People will not stop having sex, and as long as sex is rampant, there will be pregnancy - wanted and unwanted. Legalizing abortion will give women access to proper health care and safe abortion.

People will abort, whether you legalise it or not. Criminalizing abortion just makes women find clandestine ways to abort, which are often unsafe for them because many of these people doing it are quacks. There is no point endangering the lives and health of these women.

Nigeria is a party to the Maputo protocol - a protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa. I do not understand why we cannot see the dangers of criminalizing abortion in a country with already poor health care system.

I have a lot to say because I took International Health Law during my Msc and I did a lot of research on this. But let me not belabor the point.
