@COVID19_disease This is in line with previous data showing *recentness* of v-x to be important.
"...compared individuals who received a fourth dose with closely matched counterparts who had received three doses but had not yet received a fourth at the same calendar time."
“In first months of life, roughly 85% of an infant’s calorie intake goes toward neural development. A serious infection can reduce how much a baby eats & divert calories away building a brain.”
“it might impact brain development by diverting.. resources to fighting an illness.”
“The authors had to control for parental income, education & employment across municipalities with higher & lower infection rates. Yet the pattern was clear: Earnings, education & mental health outcomes all declined as community disease exposure rose.” https://t.co/wl7JFCteGF
Reminding myself that Allen is extremely problematic, even if I agree with his latest Atlantic opinion piece on hanta. Oh, and that time he decided that planes are germ-free, lol...
Clean air advocates beware: Joseph Allen has consistently argued against COVID protections and supported mass infection policies.
We need leaders who fight for equity at the center of the clean air movement, not people who have caused harm to the people most impacted.
A clear example of this issue of unreliable test results in the first few days of symptoms is the British man who is currently in hospital in Johannesburg:
▪️24 APR: Symptoms start
▪️27 APR: 1st test ➡️ NEGATIVE
▪️2 MAY: Repeat test ➡️ POSITIVE
https://t.co/RyZ7PafaxL
This point is further reinforced by the statement issued yesterday from the International Hantavirus Society.
“A negative PCR result early after exposure should therefore NOT be interpreted as excluding later infection.”

4/ TESTING
The WHO confirmed that the hantavirus tests can only detect the viral RNA in a SYMPTOMATIC patient, from the first day of symptoms.
To clarify: this means someone infected will test NEGATIVE for the entire duration of the incubation period until onset of symptoms.

@SocraticaKim@PrettynPantsuit@michael_hoerger My clinic won't mask for me, & I'm concerned that prep & process could hurt my chronic illness baseline, so I was resigned to skipping it. So my primary ordered a mail-in screening. (Brands vary in false positive rate & in recommended frequency.) Best wishes

I wasn’t a “masker” before the pandemic. Most of us weren’t.
But then something clicked: self-schema theory — the one I studied in grad school — became real life.
See, I’ve always seen myself as a healthy person. Not just a tennis player, exerciser, or martial artist — those are identities but they’re more domain-specific life roles.
But health? That’s a higher-order identity that remains omnipresent across life roles.
When I learned what this virus does to the brain, heart, immunity — I didn’t need mandates. I needed to protect my identity.
So I masked.
And I haven’t trained in a gym or martial arts dojo in 5 years. I built my own space instead. Because I refuse to lose myself.
Meanwhile, many experts in my own field — behavior change, fitness, exercise and sport psych — dropped masks not because of data, but because their self-schema wasn’t about health.
It was about image.
Visibility.
Fitting in.
Drs Hazel Markus, Deborah Kendzierski, Diane Whaley… y’all were right.
Self-schema + possible selves = the keys to long-term health behavior change.
Now I live it.
I teach it.
And I see it clearer than ever:
We protect the identities we value most.
COVID-19 cases are increasing and flu is still spreading in NYC.
Wearing a mask in crowded indoor settings this spring can protect you and others, even if you don’t have symptoms. Well-fitting masks, like N95s, KN95s, or KF94s offer the best protection: https://t.co/GSNg7r7fQF
This is the only public email I could find for Tracy. Keep contacting her and CBER at the FDA because we are at risk of losing Novavax and others

5) Furthermore, Baloxavir works so well, it also PREVENTS flu infection too, according to a trial in Japan, among uninfected household contacts of someone else with the flu... reduced risk by 86% (i.e. 86% lower risk!)
