Spanish police arrested 20-year-old Abdu, a Moroccan migrant, over the death of 89-year-old Carmen “Carmelina” Hidalgo Alarcón, who was violently knocked down and dragged during a street robbery in Puente Tocinos, Murcia, for a costume-jewelry necklace worth just €2.

Carmelina was returning home from her senior center when two men approached her and violently snatched the necklace from her neck. She suffered severe injuries, including a fractured hip and other trauma, and died in hospital four days later from complications.

Police say Abdu has numerous previous arrests and is being investigated over five violent robberies. His girlfriend was also arrested on suspicion of helping conceal him.
