How Israel lost the young right.
As @Peoples_Pundit & I detailed, the near century of public opinion history revealed common threads as well as unique factors no longer present that forecast what would happen. Bibi sat on a fractured foundation of Israel support, which he could have rallied after 10-7. But he misused it (much as Bush did after 9-11) b/c he misunderstood American support, and its fractured foundations.
First, most Americans preferred to stay out of Israel's wars, always. This trend never changed in the 75+ year history of American public opinion on the subject.
Second, Americans always turned sour on Israel whenever it went from bullied to bully, whether 1956, 1967, 1973, 1983 or 2025.
Third, unique factors helping Israel in the past -- the remembrance of the horrors of the Holocaust, the Cold War ally, the religious right marriage of political convenience in the late 70s -- were fading rapidly as a motivating factor. By contrast, Israel undermined itself with Bibi's quick support of Biden after the 2020 election during Trump's legal election challenge, embracing Covid restrictions so eagerly, and championing Pfizer, the pro-LBGTQ and pro-abortion policies of Israel, and Israel's increasing marginalization of Christians in the region, including removing the protector of Christians in neighboring nations in regime change operations.
Fourth, young evangelicals took offense to bastardizing their religious beliefs, pretending loving Jesus required supporting a foreign politician of a foreign nation, especially when led by an astroturfed movement of morally dubious "preachers" many saw as power-abusing, adulterous, greedy grifters b/c the very founder of Christian Zionism (a movement that didn't really even exist in the US until the 1970s) is exactly such a person.
Fifth, dragging the US into a direct war w/ Iran based on another WMD-style lie, was the last straw for many of these voters, while watching Israel beg for billions in aid, set Syria ablaze with their support of a terrorist rise to power, bomb-after-bomb other nations, cover-up complicity in the Epstein debacle, and a mass campaign to purge independent thinkers from positions of power in the Trump administration, while razing Gaza to the ground & starving out its population (but pretending they weren't), bombing Iran during peace negotiations then bombing Qatar during another round of peace negotiations, and so on & so forth.
In this context, the latest smear-and-censor campaign against true MAGA (few could be more MAGA than @TuckerCarlson@RealAlexJones & Steve #Bannon, the holy trinity of OG MAGA), only further sabotages their objectives. The Israel-special-relationship crowd is politically DOA, and rapidly becoming a political pariah in both parties w/ the new generation of voters. No amount of browbeating, gaslighting, astroturf bought-off pr campaigns, or smearing-and-censoring campaigns will change that. It is a crash course in how to destroy yourself in quick order.
The most terroristic state in the Mideast, the greatest danger to peace & prosperity in the region or globally, the nation guided by religious-inspired lunacy, and the country that uses nuclear blackmail isn't Iran; it's Israel.
As a lifelong evangelical, Christian Zionism is an absolute heresy. The Old Testament Israel has nothing to do w/ a bunch of politicians in a foreign land whose country dates to 1948; what if they called their country Zion instead? It's a sin, truly taking God's name in vain.
@jasongr46795183@nealejw@barnes_law I agree he deserves a fair trial and the presumption of evidence. As to confession and moving to the sentencing, have you noticed his lawyers are working hard to remove death penalty and not so much on trying to defend against his actions? The have no reason to give him a plea.
@marlahohner Standard Appeals (Direct Appeals) Statistical analyses across Texas appellate courts show that less than 2% to 5% of all felony convictions—including murder—are reversed on direct appeal. Appellate courts heavily favor upholding the trial court's ruling unless a major legal error
@LeeannetteRamos@barnes_law It's easy to see your not a lawyer. The real world isn't like Matlock. The defense isn't allowed to spring new evidence at trial. No witness will be called that both sides don't know what they will testify to. And there strategy so far seems to be attacking the death penalty.
