A former BioWare developer says making the original Mass Effect was a crazy ambitious project, but finishing it meant brutal crunch.
Cinematic designer Armando Troisi says the team worked “21 days on, one day off” at one point just to get the game out.
They were dealing with a new engine, a new IP and a new console while pushing the Xbox 360 as hard as they could.
The cinematic team even watched movies like “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” in the background, studying how the camera work could be recreated in a game.
Troisi says Mass Effect was the kind of game that “should have never been made,” but looking back he still feels the huge effort was worth it, calling it “really, really hard, but really worth it.”

Kelsey Grammer comments on Beast in ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’
“To my mind, he’s the Martin Luther King of the mutant community. He’s a man of stature, of integrity, who believes that what you do is who you are.
He was slow to action, but once being immersed, he is given no quarter and expects none. He’s an amazing character, an amazing man. I love playing him. I think people will be happy with what we’re doing [with him in Doomsday].”
