Sydney Kudakwashe Thindelo (37) is a Johannesburg businessman who featured prominently in News24’s investigation into procurement corruption at Tembisa Hospital.

The reporting found that he obtained 43 contracts worth about R20.1 million in less than two months the biggest share among four shellcompany directors identified at that stage.

He was listed as director of five companies registered on the same day. Those firms had no websites and were not licensed with SAHPRA to supply medical products. Checks of the five addresses he filed with the CIPC showed they were bogus: nonexistent sites or ordinary homes.

One of the most striking deals was a R495,000 order awarded to his company Sogaki for 100 bonded-leather wingback chairs at R5,000 each. The amount sat just under the R500,000 limit, so the hospital CEO could approve it without a formal provincial tender.
Thindelo lives in Northwold,
Johannesburg, and previously worked at a city accounting firm. Confronted about the scandal, he denied any link to the murder of whistleblower Babita Deokaran.

The Tembisa Hospital networks have since become the focus of a wide SIU investigation into systemic looting estimated at more than R2 billion.

@ke_warra There is many stokvels that work like that though. Just that the interest is left to accumulate and shared by the group at the end of the year. You use the money and it comes back with interest. He probably didn’t use the word interest for legalities like the NCA.
