Snarky PA professor & MPA director @wtamu studying higher ed & NIL policy. 1stGen scholar, former sports writer, always running & 4x marathon finisher!
@LanceZierlein Have a good buddy that is a high level CFB personnel guy. This is the new thing and it makes sense. 23-24 year olds are stronger, make less mistakes, and usually have a better approach. Look at the things Sark is saying this offseason. This is the NFL model in CFB.
@LanceZierlein@johngranato For the conferences it is all about media rights. That is what it is always about. The bill is heavily influenced by lobbying (NCAA and Cody Campbell and his crew) and overreaches in a lot of areas. Just like the House settlement, this is about power.
@MLSist My question is, does he have to be captain for him to have that impact? The captain is really an on field thing and the guy who meets with the media more. He can influence the group in that respect with or without the arm band. So, what is he taking off Adams and CP?
@LanceZierlein@DELv2@johngranato I beleive the TV deal for the playoffs goes back up for bid if the playoff expands past 16. If true, that is likely the motive for the Big 10s push here for 24, which opens it up for FOX. TV money drives CFB.
@LanceZierlein@johngranato Prospects are lotto tixs. Yordan hit big. You don't turn the tixs that hit big into more tixs. Trade Brown, Hader, Pena, Parades, & Walker. You'd have just as much chance of their return hitting as Yordan's. Sign Yordan long term and build around him.
@LanceZierlein@johngranato@DELv2 All this Rocket, Astro, draft talk... you guys are burying the lede. Two guys broke two-hour marathons in London. You guys gotta get into the super shoe debate! Come on guys, priorities.
@LanceZierlein Any chance the Texans go with Anthony Hill if he is there? Seems to fit the mentality (hard worker, fast, strong) of the defense and is more fluid than what they have now.
@johngranato@LanceZierlein If extend Cam's window by two-three years with an AAV of $9.5-11 million... you do that. In five years, that is equivalent to a serviceable OF starter. Cam projects past that pretty easily. Makes sense. Should've done it with Brown and Pena. As well.
@heitner Shocked I tell you. Have a few contacts on the college personnel side. They started out saying the company line on this. That changed pretty quickly. I feel like until a team gets the death penalty and it survives the courts, this train isn't stopping.
@LanceZierlein@johngranato Purdue bigs were super good at the hook and flailing to draw fouls. Refs were falling for it all night. Great game but refs put UT in a bad spot with the way they called it on the baseline and the Horns sadly never adjusted.
@jtyardley Environment will be new and sterile. Crew stadium at least has tradition. Being removed from the MLS bubble, US soccer struggles with true, organic tradition. So much is copied/manufactured. NYC stadium will be the same. Although, NYC probably has people who can afford tickets.
Come work w/ me in the MPA program at West Texas A&M University. 3/3 teaching load w/ a mix in the MPA program and intro (US & Texas) courses. MPA is 100% online, so must be good there. Considering PhDs and ABD candidates. Open to subfield. Ask me any ?s.

@LanceZierlein I have heard of buyouts in the contracts for early transfer, but not a sell on type fee (if your value materially improves here and you complete X type of production then we get a percent). If that is happening, would really like to see the language.
@LanceZierlein HS players in all sports will get squeezed. Route now is go to smaller school, put on good tape and move up. Won't be surprised if we see a type of sell on fee similar to soccer at some point. Go to Rice, play well, get paid by P4 and then Rice gets a piece.
Also, if P4s are smart, they will treat their 105 like the NFL. Pay 60-63 guys (high rated HS players, holdovers, portal guys) then the balance is 2-3 star HS players who love the school, get a schollie & a small amount of rev or "NIL" and are essentially practice squad guys.
@LanceZierlein Any systemic change like this needs to have big voices advocating for it. The biggest voices come from a place of self interest or hypocrisy. The Sabans, the Calaparis, the agents, all of them. Funnily enough, we don't hear from players much. That is a problem and needs to change
@LanceZierlein The NIL stuff that you're/we talk about is a fraction of college athletes. It is hard to separate bc it is all we hear about. Changing the rules could have some unfair trickle downs. I have some research that will be used in my next book on NIL that address this.
